The original walk-on Wickerman Eddie, 2000

Yeah, the FOTD album cover is arguably either the most or at the very least top 3 most iconic designs, at least in the mainstream. It feels as if everyone has seen that at one point or another and so many people who don't listen to Maiden or even to metal in general wear shirts with that artwork.

My issue with a lot of the walking Eddies from that era is that many of them look like hunchbacks. If the wicker man design would get another shot today it'd probably look great, but back then? Wasted potential.

Apart from DOD, there haven't been any iconic Eddie designs between the early 90's and 2011 so it's not much of a surprise the walk-ons didn't deliver.

I think the Benjamin Breeg one is great, it may not be the most original idea in the world, but it's a good execution and looks like what a proper Eddie cover should IMO

re: walk ons,

It's all about what they look like from a distance in the crowd, a lot of them, even the good ones, look crummy up close.

The Eddie in a biker jacket and jeans as always looked shit on the few tours it's been on.

I'm fond enough of that one in fairness, I like the idea and it's a bit more traditional but I'd prefer if it was drawn a little 'harder' or somethin. It's nearly there for me. The song however, is pure magic.

I disagree. Fear, BNW (yes, even just a head) and FF for sure. Some of the others are noticeable.

As for walk-ons, definitely not the early 90's ones, even the tree. But Ed Hunter, DOD, FF, imo yes. For its time, ofc. Since 2008 they are better.

That's what I meant. FOTD or, if we're really stretching, the FOTD live Eddie was the last one with iconic potential until TFF. The BNW cover undoubtedly had impact of its own, but it obviously couldn't be translated to a walk-on.

Editing the chorus for the music video of the single was odd. I don't think Maiden have ever done that before.
It was edited for the single itself, not just the music video. They also edited the TWM chorus for American radio so it was something that had been done before. But definitely rare for the band and as mentioned upthread, likely bowing to record label pressure.

Odd for Maiden but not odd for bands in general. Often the single is rushed out and then they decide they don’t like something and it’s changed by the time the album comes out.

The band Heart had a bunch of mid 80s singles that have completely different vocal parts and even counter-melodies etc that were only on the single mix not the album mix.

VH Jump music video has a Roth yell after the solo when the keyboard riff comes in again, it’s not on the album.

Found another pic of the original BNW one :
