I doubt it, back then each album had at least 2 singles. And it's normal. They might not have planned on two singles after the Futureal debacle.
Silent Planet in particular is odd, it was a single yet they barely played it. Is there a story behind that? Recommentation by the record company, but Steve had no interest?
I assume they dropped this version fairly quickly? I saw the show at Earls Court and I honestly don't remember this.

It looks goofy as hell. They dumped it for the Ed Hunter Eddie, as seen on RIR DVD.
And made them edit the chorus. If I remember correctly, the band wanted to release Brave New World as a single but the record company forced them to release Out of the Silent Planet instead.
Would have been good to have Planet and Fallen Angel played at Rio. I kind of assumed that was the point of playing them at the London gigs, as a run through for an extended set at Rock in Rio. Strange that Mexico and Argentina got them but Chile and Brazil didn't.
I hear ya brother. But seems weird to me to just add them on, totally out of place. So I wonder if the original idea was to iron them out then add them to the set in more appropriate places for Rio in particular. They probably went down as well at the end of the gig as a fart in a two-men submarine, hence them being replaced with Run to the Hills.
It's a close run thing, no doubt. Did VXI have a walk on? Surely it was also shite. No Prayer Eddie was worse.

Actually, now I think about it, off the top of my head, were any of them good between 1990 and 2010?
Yah, I'm with ye on SBIT, I'd forgotten that bad boy.The one on the Dance of Death tour was good (definitely much better than its predecessor, King Edward from the GMETID tour) and the one they used on the Somewhere Back in Time tour was outstanding (it was not new though).
There is that. Personally I don't care for any Eddie from VXI until TBOS. I like the general design and aesthetic of BNW but it's more the colours and the vibe that floats my boat as opposed to there being a magnificent Edward.Apart from DOD, there haven't been any iconic Eddie designs between the early 90's and 2011 so it's not much of a surprise the walk-ons didn't deliver.

I never knew that. Makes sense. The title track and a catchy and anthemic song like Mercenary. Fallen Angel could have been a great single too.And I seem to remember The Mercenary was supposed to be the second single.
Editing the chorus for the music video of the single was odd. I don't think Maiden have ever done that before. And made them edit the chorus.
Maybe they were testing them for RIR, maybe they just wanted to play more new songs and to make the set fresh, they were filming so maybe they were planned for release, but the huge show was the highlight. It it is atypical for the band to play 2 new songs at the end of a set no matter the leg of the tour. I think Fallen Angel is a good live song. Silent Planet was fine, but both weren't that easy at the end of the set for Bruce. Unlike Mercenary. The reception in SA is usually good for new songs too, but against Run To The Hills after the Reunion...Mayhap they were both to be integrated into the Rio set but the band weren't happy with the performances (or crowd reaction?) so they were dropped.
I disagree. Fear, BNW (yes, even just a head) and FF for sure. Some of the others are noticeable.Apart from DOD, there haven't been any iconic Eddie designs between the early 90's and 2011 so it's not much of a surprise the walk-ons didn't deliver.
