The Marvel Thread (Spoilers, and language!)

So Dr Strange is the next film. For lesser known characters, gotg & ant-man did well at the box office. However they had humor to bring in the masses. Think Dr Strange will do that well?
Btw, i am a HUGE fan of the Steve Ditko run on the character so i am rooting for him. Just don't know if it will appeal to the masses.

Hard to say, depends on how they market it. Ant Man trailers made the movie look really generic and boring, honestly. It was way better than it was made out to be. It also did pretty poorly in the box office for a Marvel movie.

Doctor Strange looks different than just another superhero movie, if they can play up the scifi/horror/mystic element I could see it doing well.

Disagree. They just didn't take themselves too seriously in the trailers because of the name.

Also disagree. Had smallest budget for a MCU movie so far and earned more than first Hulk, Cap and Thor movies, and pretty close to the first Iron Man movie. Plus I think he's gonna become way more popular after Civil War (pretty much his every line in the movie made the audience laugh), so next movie is gonna earn even more.

Yeah, I expect Doc Strange to be the darkest/weirdest MCU movie yet. Director only directed horror movies before it and lots of people say this one looks like Inception. Plus the story really doesn't allow for much humor. Pretty sure it's gonna be popular too due to Cumberbatch, Hannibal and just by being in MCU :P

I have to say, I saw an Ant Man trailer at the cinema, and was waiting for the punchline at the end. I was convinced it was a spoof trailer.

Ok, I saw Civil War and although I'm usually pretty negative in regard to Marvel, I have to say - it's freaking fantastic. I enjoyed pretty much every minute of it (I even stayed for both credits scenes, lol - the first one was especially worth it). It's by far the best Marvel film and one of the best comic book adaptations ever made. On the contrary to both Avengers, this one has a solid, engaging, well-executed plot. In addition to that, the action sequences are just breathtaking. I loved how all the characters were used and worked in the story. It all felt so incredibly seamless. Interesting... They did such a good job with all these heroes and the story around them, whereas BvS had troubles with handling motivation for just 2 (or 3, Lex included).

I have to finally watch Ant-Man - he was hilarious in CW. ;)

AOS 2 hour season finale...

1. finally will get the LMD on the show that were so commonly used by Nick Fury in the comics.
2. Quake is on the run against SHIELD...again?

Without giving spoilers, can someone tell me: how important is it to have seen Captain America: Civil War before finishing the last 3 episodes of SHIELD?

I think it'd be better if you saw CW first. First, because it's the best superhero movie ever. Second, it references 3 things from the movie (that I can think of): one was probably made clear in the trailers, one guessed ages ago, one is from the ending. So, CW first I guess.

Just saw Civil War...WOW. A damn fine, wonderfully executed movie. The stakes have been successfully raised.

I'd say that Whedon still does a better job juggling all the various storylines, but this is definitely in my top 3 Marvel movies, maybe even number 2.

X-Men: Apocalypse. Anybody else see it yet?

1. Finally see how Professor X loses his hair
2. Looks like Bryan Singer is finally showing the beginning of the Phoenix saga
3. The end credits scene that shows mutant blood being taken by someone who works for Essex Corporation...this company is owned by Dr Essex who later becomes a major X-Men villain called Mr. Sinister who is responsible (sort of) for the creation of Nathan Summers who grows up to become Cable. Cable will be in Deadpool 2
4. Glad to see more of Quicksilver. Another great scene he had in this film.
5. Thought Sophie Turner did great as Jean Grey.
6. Maybe next time we see Storm without the mohawk.

Yes, me and NP posted in Now Watching. I forgot it was Marvel.

Ah, that was it, I remember it now. I didn't know about that link.

A little late, but I watched 2 Marvel latest releases and this is what I think about

This movie could've been really good... if it was released 10 years ago. Althought it has a lot of details that I really like - special effects and story portrayal are so outdated it degrades the whole movie

I see why people like this movie. TBH this one made me think if I should start reading reviews again before I go to cinema (I stoped doing that few years ago and must say I have more positive experiences than negative). Looking at the cast and knowing the comic-book story line I expected a fun 2 hr superhero action movie. Wrong. I don't say the movie as itself is bad - but I was bored as fuck for the first hour and a half. It's not bad, quite opposite - it' really good, but it wasn't what I expected.

"It's really good" but you were "bored as fuck for the first hour and a half"? Maybe elaborate on what exactly you did or didn't like, cause this post is sending some very mixed signals.

I think I get where he's coming from, although I wouldn't say "bored as fuck" during any part of the movie. It definitely had some slow moments, but then nearly every Marvel movie does. It was probably my fault for expecting this to somehow have a much stronger story than what they typically produce (although Winter Soldier was up there).

Considering that when CA: CW wasn't slow, it was 14 superheroes duking it out in broad daylight over and over again, I was glad for the pacing. Honestly, at this point we have seen so many superhero fight scenes that I find them infinitely more boring than character development and dramatic weight. Civil War had dramatic weight coming out the wazoo. It was the closest we'll probably ever get to a bigscreen version of what Marvel is doing on Netflix and I loved every second of it.

I'm not saying I wanted more fight scenes, the story to action scenes ratio was perfect. I just think the story could've been a little bit better.

I thought it was a pretty good story. I found it interesting that, once again, it was Tony's ego (mental-ness) that created the entire problem. Avengers 2 was all because of Tony and his 'Ultron' experiment. This movie was all because Tony felt bad over what happened in Whereverthefuckia. Interesting to me is that Tony, of all people, should know what a bad idea government oversight is.

Second, I was wishing that Zemo was someone different. Someone out of Cap's farther back past coming back to haunt him. But that's just me.
