They obviously enjoy writing new music, given the fact that we know they wanted to record another album before SNJ was even released. They don't have to, but that's not an argument in any way. Technically they don't have to do anything. Steve didn't have to start the band, they didn't have to kick out Paul for Bruce, they didn't have to continue in the 90's, they didn't have to do a reunion. There's a lot they "didn't have to" but they do nonetheless. Though they've embraced their hits more and more over the years and arguably focused a bit too much on them with the whole LOTB tour (imo of course) they still have a hunger for new music. Maiden is not a band like Kiss or Twisted Sister that live and die by their hits and have next to nothing of value to offer in recent years.

I suppose there is the possibility that there won't be another album, but to be quite honest, unless some kind of tragedy strikes, I'm sure that there will be one more studio album.

I sort of get your point but my initial comment was more about their age now and their legacy now. They were all in their 30’s in the 1990’s so to stop then would be madness. At the very least they could have quit Maiden and all went there separate ways and formed other bands (as Bruce and Adrian did) but I totally understood their reason to continue.

Then with Brave new world they were still relatively young men in their early 40’s and with the reunion and the reaction to BNW together with the resurgence of people wanting the traditional metal sound after grunge and nu metal had started to die off I absolutely get their reasons for continuing on. They were all buzzed and the creative juices were flowing.

Now, 23 years later after BNW with the reunion period propelling the band to even bigger heights (not necessarily in record sales but arguably they are bigger now than in the 80’s) and an even bigger legacy where else is there left for them to go? They’ve conquered the world in music terms and have a fantastic legacy to leave behind so as they get closer into their 70’s have they got the buzz for one more album and another album tour followed by another classics tour taking them into their 80’s.

As I said in my previous post if I was them I’d just come up with different themed tours and just concentrate on touring and playing live now and not be so interested in a new album.

Of course I’d love a new album but I’m in the fortunate position of having been a fan since just before FOTD came out so I’ve experienced over 30 years of new album buzz and new album tours so for me if I got the chance too see them live a few more times until they retire that’s the most important thing.

Nicko would be in his late 70’s and the rest will all be in their 70’s. I don’t think maiden will ever announce a farewell tour but surely the last tour they do won’t be for a new album, even if they find a way to combine it with an old album like future past. This means that from 2029 they would likely then go on a final tour which they would need some sort of theme for to be a greatest hits tour that would last 3/4 years taking them close to 80 years old!

They all seem in good health (Nickos recent issues aside) but that’s asking a hell of a lot from a band that doesn’t need to release any new music as they already have a huge and very respected legacy of studio albums behind them. Plus the cost and time to write and record when album sales, even for a band like Maiden, are flat and will likely end up costing them more than they would ever make.

Don’t get me wrong I’d love another album but if it never happened I could understand it. If I was them at their ages all I’d give a shit about now is touring until I couldn’t do that anymore.

Adrian, Bruce and Steve all have side projects going if they still have any need or desire to write and be creative.

You have a point (although you could have said the same thing in 2015 or 2010), but I think at least one more album is possible. They still have a desire for new music (even their side project imply that). I mean, they wanted to record a 2nd album right after SJ. And they will never release a bad album, especially now. SJ is special, here is a challenge for them to try and write on the same level. This is what will motivate them. Not many old bands can say that. It doesn't matter if it's an album tour (album written for 3 months) or a different concept for a tour, they still need to come up with a big production because they are Maiden. But of course they would prefer touring, especially at their age. I understand that. They love it. As they have said many times, live is where the band truly shines.

Basically yes (TFP concept is the way), but their variants are not that many, especially after the History/Hits tours. Of course, they can always embark on a random tour with just a mix of their classics/songs.

I can agree to an extent, although I will always prefer new album tours. If they don't release another album it would be a big waste, considering the quality of their albums, songs and band members.

Maiden don't NEED to do anything. They write, record and perform new material because they WANT to. It scratches a creative itch for them.

That's why they go out on album tours playing 5/6 new songs even though the casual fans moan and just want to hear the hits on repeat. That's why they played AMOLAD in full.
That's why I'm sure we'll get at least one more album before they retire.

The Writing on the Wall is pretty good and Hell on Earth has some great bits, but is overlong. The Time Machine and Death of the Celts are OK (self-plagiarism aside) and Days of Future Past was much better on the album (Bruce really struggled with this one live).

I would be lying if I said that I would not have preferred to listen to other songs (from other albums) instead.

That being said, mediocre Maiden is still better than most bands at the top of their game.

They want to do a last one but its true that there are a few spaces left during 2023 and 2024. But im sure they will do a last album. Senjutsu its a really good one.
