The Future Past Tour 2024

I'd just like to announce to whoever it was that jokingly commented on my commenting on Bruce's hairline issues some time ago: I'm still not balding, but he blatantly is, so fuck you. However it is also fair to point out he is worth millions and I'm not, so it's impossible to say which of us is winning.
I lost my hair up top a while back and I am 35. I have never understood why people losing their hair is such a big deal. Both the person losing it and those looking on.

Personally, I have a lot of respect for the Dio-ass skullet look. Denial of God, if you will. Just as a little friendly nod to a certain Paul D. You don't have to accept it, the best heavy metal singer of all time didn't and he looked totally cool doing it.

Let your bald head shine proudly as a beacon of manhood which will guide lost souls in their way through life.

And save lots of money from not having to buy shampoo in the process!

Hair convo notwithstanding (I have baldness and full heads of hair on both sides of my family so we’ll see what happens to me), I have a hot take about CSIT now that the tour is done:

I preferred them playing the middle section before the solo straight over the drum roll like on the album.

I liked how it kept the song driving forward non-stop.

I have a hot take too: no. It was a shitty compromise even Nicko acknowledged and despite pundits on here deciding he couldn't have done it even if he was in full health, yeah right. Sure. Even if it really was a no-go, he would've found a compromise had he the full mobility of his arms intact. Because he didn't, he had to settle for playing it straight as a compromise.

A song that's one of his crowning achievements and you seriously suggest it's better when it's by Nicko's own admission worse? Get outta here.

The biggest missed opportunity of Future Past is that they didn't do this tour ten years ago. I'm glad they finally did it and pulled it off with reasonable success, but it's a massive misfortune of circumstances that it happened in the wake of Nicko having a stroke.

Yea, that would have been something. You wouldn't even need to adjust the setlist that much, I can see more than 5 song on the 2011 setlist that could be swapped out for the Somewhere in Time material.

Of course if they were at a point where they had the appetite to play SIT songs more back then, it probably wouldn't matter that much because they would have done it on Somewhere Back in Time.

It was so weird that they seemed to have an aversion to playing Somewhere in Time songs for years and years. Ok they did Wasted Years and HCW, but the others have been neglected. At the O2 last year, I couldn’t believe how loud the crowd were during the chorus to CSIT. It was on a par with Aces High. It showed me how much the album is loved. I hope they realised the error of their ways!

I've mused on the thought before, but TFP but it's the Final Frontier tour instead would've been a sight to behold. They only ever played five TFF tracks anyway and the 2011 leg felt like a strange three-way compromise between an album tour, a reunion era tour and an actual hits tour.
Maiden’s set lists between 2007 and 2014 were fairly predictable (2010 excluded). There were very few surprises on those tours. I can only think two times where I thought ‘I didn’t see that one coming’: Moonchild in 2008 and Afraid to Shoot Strangers in 2012-13. I am so glad that they have become a little less predictable since 2016.

I like it both ways, it kept the song indeed, but the album version is more impactful. Nicko will say the same.

This. And not playing Parchment! SBIT was the perfect moment in time. The band was on fire.

TFF and SIT would have been a great thematic pair, but the 2011 setlist had some Reunion hits, some of which were also played in 2010, so they could have swapped some out. I think it's a strong setlist and probably done such because of the previous tour.

More than 5? Some from the new album? Agreed with your second comment.

The neglect of the classic album SIT is odd. Was it because Bruce probably isn't a big fan of it (and he didn't write anything for it), because of the sound, because the original tour wasn't documented, or simply because after ME tour the band realized they should play more different songs than just the usual choices and new material, which is normal. I remember in an interview from 1986, Steve said he really liked the album.

We can say the same about the 90's setlists, the hits are a must, that's the reason. The 80's are a different matter.

Surprises from this period? Rime, Moonchild and Afraid.

For 2011? Sure more than 5 while keeping all 5 from TFF. Any of the reunion era songs, some of the second tier classics like 2MTM or Evil That Men Do. This tour also proved that you can drop songs like NOTB and Hallowed.

"I preferred" and "I liked", and referring to his opinion as a "hot take", don't suggest he's saying anything of the sort, and in fact imply an acknowledgement of what you are saying.

More people complained about Run To The Hills not being played during the TFF tour than TNOTB not being played in this tour if memory serves

Exactly. Don't get me wrong, I would've preferred and loved for Nicko to be physically capable of playing it like on the album. BUT I did really, really like it played straight live and in person.

Nicko is my favorite drummer ever. I don't want to diminish him in anyway

Dave with a few words about the tour:

I expect such short videos with every band member like in 2017. The footage in it is probably from the upcoming live release. Is it from Argentina? They also used Mexico footage in such videos.

He praised the special crowds that give them energy (''an amazing year for Maiden and touring'') and said it was one of his most enjoyable tours. He then added that he enjoys every tour and that 2025 will be amazing, completely different and spectacular.

I hope they release a live album or (maybe) DVD/BR from the TFP tour. As I understood Dave, 2025 will be very special and different in terms of spectacle and visual conception.
