The Concert Thread

I assume that it would be difficult to make it to Montreal the next day then? Are any of the other shows feasible?
I haven't booked a flight from Calgary yet, so it might be doable. If I get a flight that leaves before noon Calgary time, I'd get into Montreal about 7 local...

Saw Michael Schenker Fest, absolutely blown away by the vocal prowess of the original MSG singers. Gary was fairly solid, Graham was far better than I expected and Robin was an absolute monster. Doogie was solid as well, he had the most variability overall in terms of when he was on and off. Schenker played amazingly and the UFO tracks were amazing live. Michael began the show by informing the crowd of the death of Paul Raymond and Ted McKenna, before having a short rant at his Brother Rudolf signaling that the band would be opening with Holiday by the Scorpions, they played the first half of the song before transitioning into Doctor Doctor by UFO and the singers came out. Into the Arena followed then the singers all took turns singing 5 songs from their time with Schenker, in the format of 3 old tracks 1 off Resurrection and then 1 more older track before swapping out. Once all 4 had sung they all came back for Warrior followed by Rock Bottom. Encore ensued following with Shoot Shoot, Natural Thing and Lights Out closing the night.

Only wishes I have is that Robin would Sing Love To Love but the concert was absolutely amazing without it. And that Schenker would move around the stage more since he stayed on the opposite side of the stage for the majority of the night.

Went to Halestorm last night. Absolutely unreal show. I had seen them before when they toured with Stone Sour and the setlist was far less impressive then to a detriment of the show. But this show was great. I was surprised by a lack of Vicious tracks in the setlist (below). That being said the band was super tight and the light show was unreal. Lzzy's screams were amazing. They referenced the fact that their debut came out 10 years ago this week and played a couple tracks early on from the album. Overall it felt like a greatest hits show which was great. I wish they had played another track from Vicious but the show was amazing nonetheless.

I'd love to see Halestorm, but they aren't coming close, sadly.

Edit: Also @The Dissident didn't know you were in Vancouver area. Next time I am in town, we should get a drink!

On Friday I saw Light The Torch at the Islington Academy2 in London (250 capacity). Light The Torch (formerly known as The Devil You Know) are the current band of ex-Killswitch Engage singer Howard Jones who had to leave the band a few years ago due to illness. It was nice to see Howard on stage again for the first time since January 2007 when I first saw Killswitch Engage in Glasgow. He's a very good singer and I prefer his vocals to the original and current Killswitch Engage singer Jesse Leach's, although Killswitch have improved since they changed singers. Some guy shouted out "Howard over Jesse" at one point and Howard told him to shut up. Rightly so too. Although I agree with the guy, that kind of thing is disrespectful to both Howard and Jesse. It was a short set at only 45-50 minutes but good for what it was. The support bands were crap.

The upcoming schedule:

1/6 Alexisonfire, London
6/6 Symphony X, London
29/6 Gojira, Birmingham
30/6 Demons & Wizards, London
5/8 Iron Maiden, Montreal
8-11/8 Scorpions, Sabaton, Anthrax, Powerwolf, Soilwork etc. @ Bloodstock Festival
28/9 Ancient Bards, Birmingham
31/10 Beyond the Black, London
25/11 Halestorm, Nottingham

Seen Iron Maidens today. My previous experience with Maiden cover bands, namely Higher On Maiden was bad. But not tonight this is how IM cover band set should be:

Aces High
Revelations
Wasted Years
Losfer Words
Trooper
Flash Of The Blade
Purgatory
Still Life
Alexander The Neverplayed
Number Of The Beast
Phantom Of The Opera
The Evil That Men Do
-----------------------------------------------
Fear Of The Dark
Hallowed
Run To The Hills

Revelations, I have goosebumps every time, I hear it live. FOTB-Purgatory-Still Life-Alex The Neverplayed has to be the best IM deep cut quartet ever by any cover band.

They look great and they play great. Would recommend.

I finally managed to buy my tickets for the Finnish Rockfest in June. Not an ideal lineup(compared to last year at least), which is why I only bought a two-day ticket. DT and Slipknot should be very interesting though.

I saw Disturbed opening for Avenged Sevenfold two years ago and they were really good. I've kind of outgrown the band since.

The first one will probably happen, since it's cheap ($15). I got a buddy who is a fan of Eluvetie so probably do that, unless it coincides with a trip. Jinjer, again, got a buddy who's a fan.

You should totally go to Ghost again!
I want to, the problem is that Syracuse is a 3.5 hour drive on a week night. Normally I'd get a hotel room somewhere and work there, then come back in the evening - but I'm not allowed to work from America.

Gotcha. Is that the closest show to you?
