It's basically unfair to whoever has to go against The Beatles. The Police were great, after all.

Metallica.

Many times on this forum, I have praised Metallica for their willingness to experiment and grow. Yet, I give them the nod based on their early albums. Those remain some of my favorite albums of all time. Puppets in particular really influenced me, and the kind of metal I like.

Nonetheless, Metallica has been inconsistent. I suspect Metallica will run away with this one, but the Chili Peppers deserve some credit for consistency. The gap from best album to worst album is smaller. I love Blood Sugar Sex Magik, but I'd still pick Puppets if forced to. Force me to listen to the worst album? I'll take One Hot Minute over St. Anger anytime.
