The 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang

It may have to do with popularity, passion, talent, professionalism and financial matters in these non-ice sports but we do not have good landscape conditions for e.g. langlauf and biathlon events. Too flat.

We had a snowboarder winning gold in 2010. But long distance with snow and terrain, that's more tough.

Last season, short track skating was dominated by Sjinkie Knegt. Won 3 goldens and 1 silver medal at the last world championship. I would not be surprised if he'd win some more medals.

The only other non speed skating Winter Games medalist: figure skater Sjoukje Dijkstra who won 1 gold in 1964 and 1 silver in 1960. Also three-time World champion (1962–1964), five-time European champion (1960–1964).

By contrast, it's hard to find a discipline where Germany doesn't have any medals. Does that even exist?

The order was a surprise, at least for the press. In the Netherlands Irene Wüst is seen as the Queen of the Winter Games. No one thought Achtereekte would win this.
I see that Simone Simons got the bronze too.

Ha, I know, its a prime example of a game where ye can imagine its genesis;

"Im bored."
"Me too."
"What have we got?"
"The brush?"
"Right, we can make this work, lets see...."

Still, good to watch, if ye give it a chance

I am picturing the sports origination in a frozen ally behind a Canadian bar

One more gold and she is the best Winter Olympic female, together with Marit Bjorgen @Dr. Eddies Wingman.

Also, she had golden medals (5) on four different Olympic Games. Only Michael Phelps (23 golden medals on 4 Games) and Carl Lewis (9 golden medals on 4 games) have a better score in this regard.
