TFP-tour (almost) over - time for a summary about the tour & Maiden in 2023 (*spoiler anyway*)

I feel there will be a live album and at least the show on social media like Live Chapter. Holding on to hope they will release a blu ray/dvd though
I agree with you. But, according to Metal Pilgrim, who managed to reach Wacken despite the war in his country (Ukraine), there were much more pro-cameras than usually on this Maiden tour filming the last show of the European leg. That signifies that the band has some plans to release at least something on YT or on DVD/BR/CD in the next few weeks/months.

If they planned to release video fairly quickly then I would understand why no live stream. Again, not talking about Wacken fans who were turned away but some folks on social media need to calm down a notch or two.

Rod says in the postergramme that someone is on the trip for the purpose of filming. Whether this is for a live release or for backstage YouTube videos, that hasn’t been confirmed.

I still find it bizarre they never released much from LOTB. I know they were going to film in 2020, but surely they had decent material from the other legs. The Icarus and Hills videos show that.

I didn’t see them this year. But I love the setlist and how they still are doing their best to perform as good as possible. With Nicko’s stroke and Bruce poor knees before the tour, it sounds like they did very well. Steve doing British Lion gigs and playing football between Maiden shows as well! Quite alot of Spinal tap moments this summer thought, but it’s just a part of the show.

Yea I'm really struggling to see where people think that a video is on the way. They've shown next to 0 interest in video releases since 2011 and skipped a live video for possibly their most visually stunning stage show ever. Maybe it's because I haven't experienced it in person, but the current stage show hasn't struck me as nearly as impressive or filmable as the last tour or even the one before that, so I really have a hard time believing a video release is being planned.
I honestly don't know why they didn't release a live video from the LOTB tour (maybe because they streamed 2 full shows from the tour or because they played 3 new songs last year?), but they won't make the same mistake with the current tour. Steve always wanted to capture the SIT songs on video. And I'm not talking about a DVD release, but a YouTube stream like for Live Chapter.

There is a bit of a pattern since the Reunion for the tours with live releases:

TEH: no.
BNW: yes.
GME: no.
DOD: yes.
ERUTW: no (I think they intend to release the Ullevi show?).
AMOLAD: no (they had a plan to release a show from 2006 plus bonus songs from 2007, iirc). Big mistake.
SBIT: yes.
TFF: yes (but not from the 2010 leg).
ME: no.
TBOS: yes.
LOTB: no. Again, big mistake!
I still find it bizarre they never released much from LOTB. I know they were going to film in 2020, but surely they had decent material from the other legs. The Icarus and Hills videos show that.
Really odd indeed. It's not like they don't have footage like you said. A tour with only live album! This is something new. A mistake of a ''2006 tour'' level, unfortunately.

The only thing I'd criticize is that Bruce's timing issues weren't completely solved and that and he still has issues here and there.

Other than that I absolutely adore the setlist. It has a few songs I'm not the biggest fan of, but I'm still satisfied with their choices, simply based on how out there and daring the setlist really is. A good third of the songs had their live debuts (one of them being ATG of course), another chunk hasn't been played in literal decades, and even classics feature 2 songs that haven't been played since 2014. Mad respect for that decision.

My takeaway from this tour is that Alexander the Great is probably the best live song Maiden has ever done. I've watched every YouTube video of the song that I've found, some multiple times. It's absolutely spellbinding. Amazing that this song sat on the shelf for 37 years. Maiden truly is the greatest rock band ever, that they can pull something "new" like this out in their 48th year.

I heard CSIT ( Best opener besides Aces High) and Stranger in a strange Land after they've dropped in 99. I can die Happy.

Here's a stupid comment:

This is the first time seeing Iron Maiden live where it didn't feel (to me) like they were headliners. I don't really know how to explain it. Imagine you're at a festival and one of your favorite bands is in the 5 PM slot. They come out with a song you've never heard live before and adore it, and there's this joyful burst: "Yes!!!! This is my band" and all the people around you are also into it, but not like you, because they're waiting for bands that come after and headliners, so they look at you a bit surprised and a bit amused. I don't want to say that Iron Maiden is just my band and not everybody else's, or that other people didn't enjoy it as much as I did, but it certainly felt like that.

They should milk this one for three years.

Those are weird moments for sure, but that's how big crowds at festivals work I guess. Arena gigs are so much better in that regard, only actual fans are there. Most of the time at least... I was at a Rammstein concert a few months ago, and I was expecting a rowdy crowd. Last time they played here 12 years ago, fans were camping outside for 2 days, etc... and when the show started there was nothing... Everybody around me just stood there and I felt so out of place. And I was in the front row, not in the back where people want to chill.

Maiden was the exact opposite in Ljubljana, I was already crushed from behind during Doctor Doctor's first minute. :D

I honestly wonder what songs like CSIT would have sounded like this year if Nicko hadn't had his stroke. It obviously sounded absolutely great, but I feel like if he hadn't had that stroke in January it would have been blistering. Curious to see how much he recovers in the time between Wacken and the Candian shows in a few weeks.

Not much different I think. The snare rolls would be still omitted and based on 2022 performances, there would be as much gallop-kick hits in it as there are now. Remember, he simplified Stratego last year. CSIT in 2008? That's a different story.

I think the biggest difference would be on Senjutsu songs and Trooper.
