One thing that Bruce is a bit overdue for that I'd love to hear is holding a note for a long time like the end of Flight Of Icarus and Hallowed or right before the quiet part of Seventh Son. It's not the end of the world if he doesn't do it, but it would be nice to hear one more time.

Yeah, I'm sure I heard some good long notes this year. The only thing he shies away from are some of longer high ones, notably in Aces High. One aspect of the new album I'll be interested in is how the writing adapts around Bruce's voice. Although he's still incredibly capable, his voice has changed, and the music ought to reflect that.

Did Maiden's music reflect Bruce's voice in the nineties, or did he adapt to the music? Or did they both independently change....

Bruce said in an interview in 1996 that he was not surprised by the way The X Factor sounded and said it'd have sounded similar if he had still been in the band as that was the direction into which it was developing. You can find it online, I think it was on the Bruce Dickinson Wellbeing Network.

Alright, will fresh up my memory there. But I also meant No Prayer and Fear. It's probably this:

Although, despite Bruce's 1996 comments, The X-Factor sounds as if it's written for someone with a different, lower voice.

I liked the comparison with Brig's point about the future. We might also adapt it to the past.

I think X-Factor would have sounded fairly similar. They did a similarly low-pitched album in 2006.

They've already started doing this. Mother of Mercy on the last album was tuned down a whole step and I'm certain it's to accommodate Bruce's voice. Listen to how he strains during the chorus, no way he'd be able to sing that song in standard tuning. The Talisman is also written lower but I'm not sure if that was necessarily for Bruce since Janick has been known to write in D (a whole step lower than Maiden's normal key: E). That said, Bruce goes pretty high on that song too, I doubt he'd be able to sing that in E.

If writing and recording new songs half or full step down helps Bruce continue to perform for years to come, I'm all for it! I really don't think it affects the music very much, especially live. Plus, heavier Maiden! :rocker:

Yes, I noticed the change between Brave New World/DoD and the last two albums, but I suspect his voice has changed even more since then, and I wonder what bearing that will have on this album.

Changed in what way in your opinion btw?

I find it funny that he says that about The X Factor in that interview, yet in SOOOO many interviews Bruce claims to have never listened to the Blaze albums, even carrying on that lie well into the reunion. It's like George Lucas saying he hasn't watched the Episode VII trailer yet. Coming from someone who had a creative stranglehold on the franchise he created, and then saying 'nah, haven't watched it'...BULL. In both cases, just a dodge to avoid having to say what you really think about a product that was made after you weren't a part of it anymore.

Guys!... The new Iron Maiden magazine will come out in February?

I just read some news on a Brazilian Maiden website, where Ron is quoted as saying that the edition #100 of the magazine will be an edition fans will not want to miss. Considering the new album situation, do you think this has anything to do with it?

Also, will February be the month where the details are finally revealed? At this point, i'm just waiting for the bomb to drop at any moment...
