I understand your frustration, and I share it to an extent. But I wouldn't demand a double album. What if they do end up releasing one, and one half of it is shit? All I want is a great album that was worth the wait - quality, not quantity.

I do admit that the silence from the Maiden camp is a bit frustrating. I would like to know too whether they actually started recording yet, or if they are actually done, and I would also like to know when to roughly expect a new album. I don't really see a need for all this silence.

Maybe they know this is the last studio record and doing a real effort about it. Let's keep it real, with this trend of releases, Nicko would be about 70 on the after-this-one album tour.
Or this silence is just a PR stunt.

I'd love for Maiden to do something, anything from a past album they've never done live. Well, maybe not Weekend Warrior or The Angel And The Gambler. And it would be nice to see them retire Fear Of The Dark. Putting Mother Russia in its place would be super awesome! And I'd give anything to hear Look For The Truth and Lightning Strikes Twice with Bruce singing.

I would like to see the following replaced with the following from their respective albums...

Iron Maiden - Prowler
Wrathchild - Purgatory
Number of the Beast - Children of the Damned
Run to the Hills - 22 Acacia Avenue
The Trooper - Still Life
Wasted Years - Sea of Madness
Heaven Can Wait - Alexander the Great
Fear of the Dark to just needs to be dropped period

Benjamin Breeg ;)

Whoa! Benjamin Breeg will be reincarnated as a ninja?

It all makes sense now. Except it doesn't. But Maiden being a big band with an experienced management, I doubt the silence is because they can't be bothered to say something. I have no clue what kind of surprise we can expect, though.

I rank this record very high, but I understand your point. In the early 2000s, for some reason, I didn't listen to this album for something like 2 years. Not that I conciously ignored it : I was just into other albums of their catalogue. When I realized that and listened to it, I was just shocked by the sound, by the multiple layers, CSIT being the most stricking example. Sometimes, it just sounds overproduced. I know it might sound strange, but I needed time to get into it again.

That makes real sense to me.

I imagine it's like being back in the 80s...Maybe you'll walk into your local music store next week and discover the album is out! :D

I don't really know what to expect...but I hope they change things up a bit from their last 3-4 albums. I'd like to see that Maiden still has the musical craftsmanship (so to speak) to write shorter but still catchy, solid and interesting songs. I feel that's something that's been missing from Maiden lately. Give us some of those short to mid length songs, 4-5 min tunes of the 80s/90s...

I think song balance would make it a more enjoyable album for me. If Maiden reveal the track list for the new album tomorrow and its 80 mins long and has 8-9 songs I'm gonna know what sort of album it's gonna be based on the last three...

Oh and please! No "Carpe diem, live your life to the fullest yada yada" opening track :D

Janick felt the same way. That's why he wrote the Alchemist and pushed to have it on TFF.
I thought he did a fine job, but it's not one of the more popular tracks on the album.

I'll also point to DoD. There are short songs on there, and they are also the least liked.

^ The short songs on Brave New World and AMOLAD are brilliant songs! They even played all 3 from BNW live. The Mercenary, The Wickerman and The Fallen Angel. The Pilgrim from AMOLAD is one of my favorite songs period from them and that album

It's a good song.

Rainmaker disagrees.
WildestDreams, New Frontier and Gates of Tommorow do not.

(By the way, I'm not dissing the short songs, just pointing out they are less popular, at least on here. Different World, Rainmaker and the Alchemist are great tracks, IMO)

Rainmaker is my fave of the more recent shorter songs but I have to say, I think they've not been very good at coming up with brilliance in 4-5 min form like they used too once. I feel, writing brilliant short songs is their Achilles heel at this stage in their career.
