Not gonna defend the bellend comment, I'm not saying that it is fine to come out of the gate swinging with that. I do maintain that there are different degrees of severity there though. Admittedly, that might feel like a distinction without meaning in the context of this thread though.
I thought the severe overreaction was funny, but you're right calling someone a bellend isn't nice either. My comment should be directed at both @BludBrutha and @AncientMariner_Essex, but also in general I think this Nicko discourse has a tendency to get people riled up easily. I get it, he's a beloved member of the band and I think many people justifiably feel like Maiden has been kinda cagey about his status in the band. I have my own thoughts personally, but there's a lot about the business dealings and behind the scenes logistics of Nicko's exit that we don't know and may never know. Let's be patient and not jump down anybody's throats for speculating - and at the end of the day this is all speculation.

This is one aspect of the change that I am curious about. Every band is different, but in most cases that involve replacements for longtime members (Richie Faulkner, Tommy Thayer, etc) it seems to me like those members are brought in as hired guns legally even if they are public facing band members and write songs/record in the studio/etc. To me, Simon is a member of the band just as much as anybody else is and I'm not really sure how a case could be made otherwise. He is currently playing the drums on tour, he has been interviewed and appeared in a video on the official channel, unless they go into the studio with Nicko or someone else I feel like the only accurate statement is that Simon is the current drummer for Iron Maiden.
It's only fair to hear his original studio work with Maiden, wouldn't you say. And it's obvious that he wants to play the songs differently than Nicko. He's a more than capable drummer.
Generally, yes. But he needs to record with the band first.
I think both the band and Nicko have really thought about it, working again. What will happen is a whole other question.
If he records an album with Maiden, then yes, he is a full time member, despite being a hired gun legally. But until then, we are in a grey area IMO.

He was "guest Eddie-tor" of the most recent fan club mag (issue #127) - I think that this is the most likely sort of context where we'll see him do any Maiden-related stuff going forward.

Exactly. And even Bruce said Nicko's health was in jeopardy many times during the 2024 tour. It was noticeable especially towards the end of NA tour.
