SMX presents The Top 100 Classic Rock Songs

A question:  Who Are You by The Who
Words of wisdom: I immediately thought of Let It Be, but it's been guessed and is perhaps too obvious.  So, I'll guess Won't Get Fooled Again, also by The Who, or You Can't Always Get What You Want by the Stones

Maybe the second one is Sweet Child O' Mine :P
brilliant -- I'll guess Sweet Emotion by Aerosmith, but I hope Mega is right.
One of the bare necessities: Gimme Shelter by the Stones
Something from Dream-Killing Thread:  someone typed Wish You Were Here, so I'll guess that, by Pink Floyd

A question:

Have You Ever Seen The Rain? by Creedence Clearwater Revival

  or

Who'll Stop The Rain? by Creedence Clearwater Revival

(but I guess the first one is more likely)

#67. Kansas, "Carry On Wayward Son"
I have the DVD this clip comes from, and this performance is notable for including Kerry Livgren and Steve Morse. Sadly, Steve Walsh's voice has gone to hell. Even Worse, Robbie Steinhardt isn't there. I saw them in the 90s with Steinhardt, and he was a monster onstage. When he wasn't playing violin, he was using his bow to fence with the other guys and throwing his 300+ pounds all over the stage.

I realize I'm a few weeks late in noticing this, but the concert this clip was taken from took place in Topeka, Kansas -- where I grew up, and where the founding members of Kansas are from.  I've actually played music in this venue, White Concert Hall at Washburn University.  It's tiny.  Noteworthy simply because it likely is the only concert DVD ever filmed in Topeka, which is not a regular stop on any respectable rock tours.

Where's SMX with the answers to the latest round?    Probably hard coming up with clues for the top 40 or so, as they probably get more and more obvious as we go along.
To quote Bart Scott:  "Can't Wait!!"
I'm also wondering whether the "words of wisdom" clue refers to "Imagine" by John Lennon -- SMX using misdirection to get you to think of "Let It Be," yet nevertheless giving a hint that you should think of the Beatles.  That's been his style in this thread.  :ninja:

The result of pouring some sugar on someone
One of the bare necessities
A question
Something from the dream-killing thread

1.  ...I cant come up with anything better than has been said.
2.  Sweet  Home Alabama, Lynyrd Skynyrd (what the hell) (although, No Sugar Tonight is a close second [ edit: this was already used, so never mind to No Sugar Tonite])
3.  Welcome To The Jungle, GnR (I"m thinking Jungle Book, bare necessities)
4.  Who Do You Love, George Thorogood
5.  I have no idea, I just read that thread from start to finish and forgot what I was looking for while laughing.  But, I'll go with Money, Pink Floyd

Yeah, that's tough.. but you have to remember there are (I think) 5 sources to average from; it doesn't take but one source ranking it at 40 or so to bump it out of the top 20.  I imagine that once you get into the top 15, they are all pretty similar, just organized differently.

Words of wisdom - yes, the clue really was that obvious. (+5 to Mega)
#40. The Beatles, "Let It Be"
Billy Preston visited the Beatles while they were recording this album, and wound up being one of the few rock musicians to guest on a Beatles record. He plays organ on this song and on "Get Back". Their friendship with Preston would last beyond the breakup; at one point, there was talk of a post-Beatles band with Lennon, Harrison, Starr, Preston and Klaus Voorman on bass. (Voorman was an old friend from the Hamburg days, and designed the Revolver cover.) They were going to call themselves The Ladders, and a press release about it was put out by Apple - only to be immediately recanted as they changed their minds. The Ladders would have been the Beatles, with McCartney replaced and Preston added. If only it had happened...

The result of pouring some sugar on someone... (+5 to Mega)
#39. Guns N Roses, "Sweet Child O' Mine"
The classic guitar intro started as a joke, based on a string-skipping exercise Slash was working on. Axl heard it and insisted there was a song there. They decided to add a long solo at the end, but didn't know how to end the song. They literally said "where do we go now?" and producer Mike Clink said, "yeah, just sing that".

One of the bare necessities... (+5 to cornfedhick)
#38. The Rolling Stones, "Gimme Shelter"
Sorry, I don't know any fun anecdotes about this song. But if you want to play it on guitar, it's in C-sharp minor.

A question... (+5 to Unknown One)
#37. The Who, "Who Are You"
This was from the last album with Keith Moon. An eerie coincidence: on the album cover, Moon is sitting on a chair that is marked "not to be taken away". This is another song where I suspect recent popularity (CSI theme song) raised this song up in the rankings.

Something from the dream-killing thread... (+5 to cornfedhick)
#36. Pink Floyd, "Wish You Were Here"
One of the most beautiful elegies in rock history - and the subject wasn't even dead yet!

It appears cfh has a challenger. Can Mega or anyone else break the hick's dominance?
