What does surprise me, though -- a lot -- is that "A Day in the Life" and "Hey Jude" can't both be on the list. SMX wrote in an early post that the Beatles only had 7 songs on the list, and six have already been named (nos. 94, 79, 62, 44, 42 & 40).
Oops. Looks like I counted wrong, then. Because you're right: it would be very odd for both of those to be missing.
If you're not on the Stairway To Heaven, you're probably here... (+5 to mosh)
#30. AC/DC, "Highway To Hell"
The clue was not a coincidence; AC/DC deliberately picked that name as a satire of Stairway.
They might wear turbans... (+5 to Wasted)
#29. Dire Straits, "Sultans Of Swing"
I personally disagree with this one. I think Dire Straits is a boring, overrated bunch of wankers.
I have smokes but no matches; help, please... (+5 to mosh)
#28. The Doors, "Light My Fire"
All the interesting trivia about this song was well-covered in the Doors movie. One notable aspect to the song is Krieger's guitar solo, and the "eastern" flavor it has. Back in 1967, this sound was new to rock. Krieger didn't invent it, but was one of the first to use it.
Starts with sound effects... (+5 to cfh)
#27. Pink Floyd, "Money"
Those sound effects are obviously on a tape loop. If you haven't heard the story, that tape loop was spooled halfway around the studio to get it to play right. Such were the adventures of analog recording.
Based on a true story... (+5 to cfh)
#26. Deep Purple, "Smoke On The Water"
The Zappa show where "some stupid with a flare gun" burned down the joint is a notorious Zappa bootleg. I have a copy around here somewhere...
Let's see how many you can guess before cornfedhick checks the site...
Title contains a color.
A type of emotion.
It's a euphemism for sex.
A song by the father, but not about the son.
This one is about the son.
