Slayer

I think it's a completely legit speech. It's probably a bit Kerry-centred, but he's not a priest holding a funeral sermon. He's a friend remembering his times with Jeff and sharing stories about their relationship.

Alright, you're right, it was legit. I am afraid I just didn't like it.

I missed something in this speech. Mostly, people say something personal about someone, paying some tribute. What we got was talking about himself, puking in a car, etc. He was trying to be cool and was more busy with his own attitude than with giving anecdotes. Alright, he had some stories, but these were Beavis and Butthead geh geh stories. Perhaps the rest was better, I'll see if I can find it.

edit: I saw the final 4 minutes in another clip and that showed some more feeling: "Remember my brother well".

I see where Foro is coming from. When I was watching it I found myself thinking, "this guy sure talks about himself a lot". Though it didn't bother me too much, I thought it was a nice speech. It's nice that they're telling stories and celebrating his memory, rather than grieving.

Yeah, and some other people spoke as well. I saw some of it, and in total, it was a fitting memorial.

And of course, it was good that Kerry King spoke. I didn't see any other member of the band.

Guy who replaced Lombardo on this year's Australian tour, Jon Dette, is going on a tour with Heathen in June. Dates clash with Slayer's dates, so he's definitely not gonna play for Slayer. So either Lombardo's back or they found someone else.

SLAYER WELCOMES PAUL BOSTAPH BACK TO THE FOLD.

Slayer's Tom Araya and Kerry King are very pleased to announce that Paul Bostaph has rejoined the band on a full-time basis. Bostaph will be behind the drum kit beginning June 4 when Slayer kicks off the first leg of its 2013 international tour in Warsaw, Poland. Gary Holt will continue to fill in for fallen guitarist Jeff Hanneman. Slayer's 2013 itinerary will have them playing 35 dates that will include headline shows as well as a number of major summer festivals in Europe, Eastern Europe and South America between June and October.
"Paul's a great drummer and a good friend, and we're very happy that he's decided to rejoin the band," said Tom Araya. "We're still pretty numb from the loss of Jeff, but we don't want to disappoint our European fans, and we need to begin moving forward...having Paul back in the band makes that a whole lot easier."
"I'm very excited to be rejoining Slayer," added Bostaph. "We spent a very intense ten years of our lives together, had a lot of fun, made a lot of great music, so for me, this feels like coming home."

Fuck. This isn't Slayer anymore. That being said, I'll still see them on this tour, mostly because the tickets are cheap and I don't have anything better to do...

It's a fucking disgrace that even in the face of Hanneman's death, they can't show the dignity to patch up with Lombardo. Fuck them.

Yesterday on Twitter:

Dave Lombardo: And.... There you have it folks!
Some guy asked: did you even hear from them or did you just read it online like the rest of us?
Dave Lombardo: Online.

Some of those old metal bands really should have quit a long time ago. Slayer is one of those bands in my opinion. No disrespect to what they've accomplished and their classic albums but they're just putting bread on the table now (and the last many years)

Yea. God Hates Us All was alright but besides that, meh.

Christ Illusion and World Painted Blood were both great. Still, I think they could have done more in recent times, had they wanted to. But it's easier to sell a tour with a setlist including all of Reign in Blood, I do see that.

I feel like you can only go so far with that style. At least Slayer makes it seem that way.

Too true. Those early records were fantastic because it was high energy thrash played by a bunch of drunk and attitude ridden 20 something year olds. Now they're 50+ it just doesn't work anymore :D
