to me, CSIT is the greatest Maiden song ever made...... It literally features all the greatness they offer... galloping guitars and bass, dynamic opening, repetitive chorus, deep thought provoking lyrics, AMAZING twin guitar harmony (the best solo ever?) and a phenomenal bridge riff to kick off the chorus.... not to mention the best guitar tone they ever had

There was no better way to follow up the masterpiece that was Powerslave than by this album. They changed everything here. It's the odd-record-out from Maiden and their "coolest" at the same time. It's both the most melodic and the heaviest. It's such a great album. After falling in my rankings for a while, I think Somewhere In Time is back on the rise now.

Maiden's first foray into synths and spacey guitars is a bit uneven, but still great overall.

Adrian Smith is the star of the show here, being the sole songwriter for both of the album's singles as well as "Sea Of Madness" (accounting for 3 of the 4 songs that scored a 9/10 or higher), and leaving his stamp all over the other great tracks. Steve and Bruce also shine with a bunch of great performances throughout the album.

Nicko is more of a mixed bag, with some sweet drum interaction in a number of places, but some really grating and repetitive cut-time drumming on "Loneliness..." and "Deja-Vu".

There are a handful of weaker tracks here, but the rest are so great that it's hard to complain.

Nicko is playing phenomenal on Loneliness and Deja-Vu. Some of his most difficult and admirable drums. The stamina, intensity, fluidity, feel.... Can it be rea hea heal....!

Perhapa not coincidental: the songs with the most (and imo best) harmonies get the lowest grades. Are you not much into Maiden's guitar harmonies?

I’m not sure about those two songs, but SiT, to me, was a step-down in drumming. It doesn’t seem as inspired as on the previous two albums, and instead of really being a part of the music itself Nicko is merely supporting it.

Something can be difficult to play and still not sound very good. I understand the thinking behind the cut-time drumming on "Loneliness...", because it evokes the plodding, endless 1-2-1-2 of the runner's feet pounding against the ground. It works thematically, but it goes on and on and on to the point where it really starts to grate on my ears and stops being enjoyable.

On "Deja-Vu" it doesn't serve any purpose other than to annoy, unless Nicko's just trying to give me deja-vu over how I felt during "Loneliness...".

I like well written, interesting music. If you take a boring lead and slap a lazy "up a third" harmony part on it, that doesn't make it any less boring. But if you take an interesting part and harmonize it in an interesting way, it can take it to the next level.

Sorry, but "Deja-Vu" is lazy filler from a band that can do so much better (and does, all over the place, on the same album).
