Senjutsu charts position

I've picked the most recent tours for all bands pre-Covid. Arena, arena, arena, festival headliner, arena etc....
Yeah not reading all this. Just to be clear you are saying that Judas Priest are at the same level drawing crowds worldwide with Iron Maiden right ? Def Leppard too. Well I can’t continue a twilight zone style conversation.

I'm not saying Maiden is equal to Metallica and AC/DC but they, like those two acts, are in the top 1% of touring acts regardless of genre. Metallica and AC/DC are the two biggest rock/metal bands of all time. They are clearly the two top dogs.
It's actually quite difficult to get accurate numbers on who the biggest touring acts or tours per year are. If you look at Wikipedia, Maiden appear nowhere on the top acts of all time or per decade.

Apparently you can get better industry figures from Boxscore but you've got to subscribe to Billboard Pro whatever that is.

Anyway, it's not something that particularly concerns me. Maiden are big on the road. Yippee. So are other bands. Also yippee. That fact shouldn't trigger folk.

Priest does not sell a fragment of Maiden's tickets.

Here are your US arenas of the Firepower world tour :

Michigan Lottery Amphitheatre at Freedom Hill
Soaring Eagle Casino & Resort
Northwell Health at Jones Beach Theater
Daily's Place
Treasure Island Hotel and Casino
Harrah's Council Bluffs

and so on...

The biggest venue they've played in SA was a Sao Paulo stadium which was one of the average venues of Book of Souls SA leg, where t Maiden played 60k+ venues, and sold out the said stadium of 43k capacity. If Priest done that there would be huge media coverage and not just some shy photos of stage and center field + some crappy phone pit bootlegs.

Book of Souls grossed over $100M, if you want to back up your claim find me a >$100M album tour from 'legacy' act that is not Metallica or any other newer act. (ACDC is a r'n'r band, they're as comparable to Stones as to metal bands)

That Metallica sells better than Maiden per album per tour that was always a known fact. They are popular and a sort of a 'national' band from USA although they don't have anything that USA specific to them which means they sell like hotcakes both home and abroad.

Motley Crue stepped in Europe a couple of times in late 80s early 90s and that was it.
Them being more successful live band is laughable. They are a stereotypical American hair creeps band, that shit does not sell well abroad. Slipknot although sucessful are not as Maiden successful and nor is Nightwish.

FWIW nobody in 'pure' metal world bar Metallica and Maiden can make a stadium gig in entire south Europe. Do you see Motley Crue, Slipknot, Nightwish, Priest playing sold out stadium shows here, in Portugal, Spain, France, Italy, and the entire Balkans + Turkey and so on. Nope. Metallica, Maiden. From affiliated worlds, AC/DC and Rammstein. That's it.

Yeah not reading all this.
* Makes several posts calling me wrong
Me - "OK here's some proof I'm not."
"Nope, not reading that."

If you're having difficulty understanding the concept that artists can exist on the same or similar level as other artists not neccesarily meaning that they play exactly the same size of shows at every gig on every tour then that's not my problem.

Metallica are on the same (stadium) level as U2 but U2 can fill bigger stadiums in some cities. Does this confuse you?

Way to misread my post.

*Before I read this topic*

I have never heard of Drake.

I recognise him from memes that i guess are referencing songs i don't know. I stopped listening to chart radio when i stopped working in vans and it turned me into a confused old man shaking my fists at clouds almost overnight. The music was terrible, but i suppose it made me feel i had my finger hovering somewhere around the pulse

Yeah and his logic , which is based on Wikipedia , is completely flawed. Here’s an example that I know first hand, cause I was actually there. Judas Priest played Rockwave festival Athens/Greece 19 July 2018. Iron Maiden played the same festival at the same venue(well not exactly venue, it was on an outdoors festival on a field) the next day. Judas Priest day 10-12k, Iron Maiden day 40k+.

All of those bands are arena/festival headliners. Heck, Slipknot even have their very own festival in the states. Maybe if you don't narrow your view to America only you'd know this.

But if you stick to America only, Leppard are at least the equal of Maiden there. They're sold many times the albums that Maiden have. That translates into concert tickets.

In the States Def Leppard and Slipknot are probably on par or higher than Maiden, but not elsewhere. I cannot think of any place where the current success of Judas Priest or Whitesnake could be compared to Maiden's though.

Here are some recent box scores from Priest, and the numbers are ridiculous when compared to Maiden:

Iron Maiden:

Judas Priest:

Whitesnake

Of course. By that logic one could declare AMOLAD tour a huge success in US where we know that audience reaction was not unanimously positive and arenas weren't sold out.

Yep more or less about 5k per show for Priest , just as I wrote in my first post without having to look at Wikipedia.

Redeemer of Souls in Santiago - $492,000 the highest listed and biggest gig by attendance - 12k
Book of Souls in Santiago - $2,181,940 - 55k - not the biggest and most profitable gig.

Granted Firepower was received way better but these numbers are 4 to 5 fold.

I'm willing to throw this without any back up but looking at the numbers, Book of Souls tour made more money than all tours JP has been on since Halford returned to the band.

I live in the US. Last time Priest played Atlanta for Firepower tour they did not sell out the Fox Theater (around 4665 capacity). Maiden mostly filled out an outdoor arena (18K capacity) for the LOTB tour in Atlanta.

Bands like Priest, Nightwish e.t.c are just a cut above club bands.
I feel like someone is exaggerating to try and emphasise some kind of emotional point.

Take a look at the audience
Listen to this song, far more epic than anything Maiden has ever ever done.
Listen to the singer, much much much better than Bruce Dickinson.

Take another look at the audience.

Just a cut above club bands. LOL

Don’t narrow my views to America ? I am not even from America and I am saying the exact opposite, that the U.S is the weakest territory for Maiden.
Precisely.

Iron Maiden is a British Band, Def Leppard a British Band, Nightwish a Finnish band. Why are we talking about how popular they are in USA as being the standard?
