Savatage

Tonight he grinds again is one of the best songs ever. Wish Savatage were active again, they made some very good music in the 80’s and 90’s

I thought the stroke incapacitated him since he disappeared from the public completely, guess not.

Savatage are finally on their way back, at least live! Sao Paulo April 19th 2025.

Now, the big questions are who will play in the band? It seems it will be no Jon! It will at least be Zak, Johnny, Jeff, Chris and Al. Any opinions about this? Kinda weird playing and no Jon Oliva. And where is the new album? Jon were working on it about a year ago, but he injured his back. Hope he have recovered enough. And will there be more dates??

From an interview last year:

"Well, we were doing a new Savatage record until I fractured my spine, and so we have to put that off now until the first of the year. I slipped on a wet marble floor, and I fractured my T7 vertebra. It's very painful... I'm actually in a lot of pain right now. I have to wear this kind of like a harness vest support thing for four months

Yeah I remember it, that's because I asked :)

Time to "up" this topic. I'm gonna see them this saturday in Greece. Although Savatage is my second favorite band, I didn't see them live, the band was not so active after 2000's. I just saw Jon Oliva's Pain and Circle II Circle in my hometown. So this is exciting. And the setlist is great, many hits and deepcuts (See, Maiden, learn!). Wondering anyone saw the band on this tour? I just found this topic here. For me Savatage is -like Maiden- the ultimate music band with prog elements, theatre themes and symphonic layer, and they did these stuff before anyone. And in the early years of internet one of the most popular metal sites was called Maiden & Savatage. So to me they are natural bands to follow together.

I discovered Savatage after hearing Power of the Night on the radio (it was a late night all Metal show). Me and my buddies got hooked quick.

When Hall of the Mountain King released, we saw them open for Megadeth (So Far, So Good...So What! tour) while opening for Dio (Dream Evil tour)!

After Gutter Ballet released, we saw them open for Testament (Practice What You Preach tour). But then Savatage headlined a club and we met Jon, Criss, & his wife! All were cool. This also was my favorite set as they played side 1 of HOTMK, plus half of GB as well as some from Sirens and Dungeons Are Calling!

Didn't get into Streets but when Zack took over vocals on Edge of Thorns, loved the cd! Sadly, never saw them live again and the 90s material didn't appeal to me like the 80s did.
Not too happy with current setlist for that reason, but if they play near me, will still go
