Satellite 15 . . . The Final Frontier: Video Impressions Here

Yeah but according to one of the French reviews, the first 3 minutes is an instrumental, before it comes to a full stop then it becomes heavy. So we pretty much heard the song, minus the instrumental intro.

Satellite 15 . . . The Final Frontier is described as two songs.  Satellite 15 (instrumental) then Final Frontier (what we heard)

Well there's actually over 4 and closer to 5 minutes actually missing (by the time the song starts a minute in and stops nearly 30 seconds shy it's a hair over 3 and a half minutes -- say 3:40 -- of an 8:40 song), so that leaves nearly 2 minutes of what we heard still gone, no?

A 5 minute intro?   I thought I read 3  1/2 Minutes.    5 minutes would make sense though.

My question is, why not just turn it into 2 songs. Do they just want to stick with their tradition of 10 songs an album?

I mean wouldn't it make more sense to have it as 2 songs 5 minutes apiece. If the first half is going to be a spacy instrumental in the vain of SIT, then have a full pause, before going into this light hearted rocker. Why not just make it two songs!?

5 listens in, and here is my 2 cents:  initially I like it better than El Dorado at first few listens.  I think this will be a very popular song going forward and will be great live.  The damn video sound is ruining the solos, and much of the song itself, so trying to listen without watching the vid is very hard.  Overall it rocks, I got it first hear, unlike El Dorado which took 4-5 listens to fully comprehend. I'm going back in for listen# 6-

A great song, though for some reason I was expecting a long epic instead of a standard opener. Probably one of of Maiden's coolest videos though. And Eddie looks so much better in the video than on the album cover. I can see why they went with this version of Eddie now; the previous pictures just didn't do him justice.

Yea, gotta say Im a bit deflated after that.
Just FINE...nothing special at all  <_<

I really wish they wouldn't do those edits of songs. Eddie is ok...but the
usual CGI kinda stuff. I admit it is hard to hear it properly with the sound effects...but it seems fairly light
and standard...both the music and the lyrics. I am keen to hear
Satellite 15 though, the instrumental opening. I had been guessing they were going for
Ides of March..lead into Wrathchild kind of thing.

But from what I can hear of final frontier song, so far, Hmmmmmmm
Damn it. Its meant to be an album opener.
Anyway one more month before we can properly give it a fair listen.

I liked the song (and the video), it does seem between this and El Dorado they are going to simplify a bit compared to the last few albums.  Looking forward to seeing this on spin on the old turntable (and CD Player)

After the first listen, I'm not too crazy about the song, it's obviously edited, but still I don't think there's much more to it. Maybe what's edited out is the instrumental intro and a few dozen repetitions of "Final frontier, the final frontier".

I don't like it, El Dorado seems much better after listening to this.

The video is a step above all other Maiden videos, but still nothing overly special. I like the connection with the album cover (Eddie and the key).

Interesting. I found it much better then El Dorado. To me El Dorado is clunky. Where as this song is, simple yet light hearted and fun. Not to mention better solos and a catchier chorus, with really sweet lyrics.

I think this is the best video Maiden has ever done.

But for the guitar solos, the track sounds very, very much like a Bruce Dickinson solo song. It's very simple, very unusual for Maiden. I'm quite fond of the chorus and Bruce sounds great throughout the whole song.

My thoughts....good song.  It's a very straight ahead rocker.  The overall tonality of this album thus far to me is that of Fear Of The Dark...stripped down and straight forward rock tunes.  (I know it'll vary a lot over an entire 70+ minute record, but so far).

I'll save a final impression for after we hear the whole song package.  Intro or not, that Satellite 15 part is STILL a piece of this song and that's a big chunk still missing.

I like both tunes so far though.  Quite different from AMOLAD.  Quite different for Maiden all around since BD and AS came back.

Anyone else want to take a stab at the lyrics ? :)

Satellite 15...The Final Frontier

I’m stranded in space
I’m lost with no trace
I Haven’t a chance of getting away

To close to the sun
I surely will burn
Like Icarus before me

I listened until I got to the chorus which was "THE FINAL FRONTIER" repeated over and over.  Then I laughed and shut it off.  Maybe it got better after that.

Do you do that everytime you listen to Brave New World? What about Children of the Damned? The Evil that Men Do? Man on the Edge? Caught Somewhere in Time?

^ you fail

I'd say its your average album opener (on par with The Wickerman, Wildest Dreams and Different World), but the instrumental that is cutout could make it miles better then what it is now. I think El Dorado is a better song overall but this one has the better solos. I like the way both songs sound and its giving me a feeling the "epic" tracks on this ablum will feel like those of the old days.

Edit: Those sound effects are pretty annoying.

^Sort of makes you wonder at this point of the band's career.

I won't say that they lost it until I listen to the entire thing (god forbid [can't believe I just said that]) , but right now I'm thinking that this method of speed writing might not be working anymore.

I must say that I'm a little disappointed. It's not a bad song, but it's weak by Maiden's standards. I realize they've evolved greatly as a band, but I don't think these types of songs suit Maiden too well. The video was pretty cool, although a little cheesy.

Anyway, I'm still looking forward to the album. I just hope the rest of the songs aren't too much like this or El Dorado, though.
