RUN FOR YOUR LIVES WORLD TOUR (2025/2026)

I think what Ghost did was absolutely a great move. The atmosphere was great and everyone was so much more into it. I went to two shows and there were no long queues for entrance so I guess it depends on the venue.

I really wish Maiden would enforce this policy too.

While I wholeheartedly support the idea behind this, it could be a major issue for people like me who just need their phones to be operational because we need to be contactable due to issues with loved ones, family etc.

Yeah, I'm against locking phones away. There are plenty of legitimate reasons, like a friend of mine whose grandma is dying and they need to be available at all times. (He's not going on a concert, that's just one example to show that we don't always know the stories of others).

Also, when I'm at the concert I couldn't care less about some phone screens. I'm there for the music and the atmosphere, phones aren't affecting my enjoyment in any way.

From what I understand you still have your phone on you, can still hear if someone is trying to contact you, and it was a simple process of getting it unlocked any time you needed once in the lobby area. There were also exemptions with anyone that needed there phones due to medical issues. From all reports despite the massive pushback Ghost took doing it, it's working very well, with most going as far as saying it was the best concert they have ever been too.

This actually makes me believe that they might play the main set in reverse chronological order and showcase art and stage design from FOTD to IM.
Don't you think the normal chronological order makes more sense than a reverse one? Imagine that the first songs can be something like Prowler, Murders, Running Free, Phantom Of The Opera, Wrathchild and Killers (leaving just Iron Maiden out of order, 'cos we know it will close the main set) and we have almost the 30min of "wow" that Bruce has mentioned.

I think best way is just announcing before the show to please limit phone use and to embrace the experience. Guy Pratt did that ahead of David Gilmour's performance when I saw Gilmour last November. The request was honored overall from what I saw - except the guy behind me who managed to accidentally turn his flash on three times in the first two songs. (Our section gave him hell over that.)

I fully support the cell phone ban with the caveat that I think it's impossible to enforce.

If you take your phone out in a movie theater, on stage musical, religious ceremony, etc, they ask you to put it away or leave. I don't think it's that out of line to do the same at rock concerts. It also wasn't that long ago when we weren't connected to the internet at all hours and going to a concert meant leaving the outside world behind for a few hours. It's not a big deal imo.

On the bootlegging point. The history of bootleggers recording concerts is also the story of discretely violating concert restrictions to get a good recording. The microphones, camcorders, and other devices used by bootleggers pre-cellphone era were also banned from concert venues but had to be snuck in and used without getting caught. And then, once inside, they had to again record in a discrete manner so as not to get caught.

The folks who are making high quality bootlegs to put on YouTube are not the idiots in the pit holding their phone up the entire concert so that people behind them can watch through a screen - they're often sitting further in the back and are filming in a much more non disruptive manner not trying to draw attention to themselves.

I don't think any performer is, who wants to look out at a sea of phones? It's just something that has been adapted too because what can you really do about it? Other than going the full Ghost ban way.
It's a sad sight to see an endless sea of phones. I can totally relate to what the bands and artists must feel up there on stage, giving their best to the audience. Unbelievably, some bands have even played more private and intimate club shows—only for people to end up watching the entire performance through their phone screens.

I always enjoy the show and get fully immersed in the music. Sure, I might take a couple of photos or short clips, but I really don’t like fussing around with my phone at all. How great was it to see a live concert back in the '90s, when everyone was focused on the music and there were no phones in sight? I was just watching some older live clips of Maiden from the '80s and '90s—no phones visible, and honestly, I wish it had stayed that way.

I definitely understand the idea behind the policies that artists like Jack White or Ghost have implemented. It’s something that has to be done, since clearly a lot of people want to film the entire show on their phones.

That said, I totally get that some people with proper gear record shows—and I think that’s fine. It's a convenient way to document different performances from a tour. These folks don’t move around or distract others, and they’re not a bother to me. I’m not offended if someone uses their phone a little, because I’m there to see the show and listen to the music. I just wish more people would put the phone down and let themselves get lost in the music.

I’ve never filmed anything at a concert, and I never will. I get in the moment with the music.

BUT I am grateful for the (skillful) filmers out there. I’ve certainly enjoyed many of their YouTube videos of Maiden and other bands.
There's the conundrum. I don't like seeing a sea of phones as it can detach you from the experience. But then since I may or may not have a chance to see Maiden until next year I'm glad there will be (hopefully) good videos of the show to tide me over.
