Random thoughts

My own random thought:  I took my son to a birthday party this weekend.  His friend, Dylan, was turning five.  This would be unremarkable except that Dylan's father, who as it turns out happens to be famous singer and musician, is sixty-six.  Retirement age, yet he has a 5-year-old!!!  I suppose it helps to have an army of nannies, which he does, but as much as I love my kids, I cannot imagine having pre-school children in my sixties.  It takes too much energy.  And, how could you really get invested in your kid if the actuarial tables say you probably won't live to see him go to prom?

It does seem like rather late in life to be making that sort of investment.  Having said that...sometimes these things happen.

Random thought: Germany is an absolutely awesome country.  I really want to live there some day, but sadly I've never studied German.

Cheers to everyone for their comments. There was no way of telling him face-to-face. I don't know how to deal with him next time I see him, but I'm not putting too much thought into it. I'd be curious to see if he has some sort of remorse, though- but I doubt it.

Invader: Do you love Germany or do you love Berlin? :P

Goddamn it, I've tried and I've tried, but I can't help it:  I love that damn "No One" song by Alicia Keys.  Help.
LoL.....My daughter sang it at the Maryland State Fair last summer, and she came in second. It is a damn catchy song.

Here's some lyrics that keep popping up in my head lately. I wanted to put the passages most relevant at the moment in bold for emphasis, but in the end, the entire thing would have been in bold... and I'm not exaggerating.

There's an evil virus that's threatening mankind
Not state of the art, a serious state of the mind
The muggers, the backstabbers, the two faced elite
A menace to society, a social disease

Rape of the mind is a social disorder
The cynics, the apathy one-upmanship order

Watching beginnings of social decay
Gloating or sneering at life's disarray
Eating away at your own self esteem
Pouncing on every word that you might be saying

Rape of the mind is a social disorder
The cynics, the apathy one-upmanship order

Superficially smiling a shake of the hand
As soon as the back is turned treachery is planned

Rape of the mind is a social disorder
The cynics, the apathy one-upmanship order

Watching beginnings of social decay
Gloating or sneering... at life's disarray

When every good thing's laid to waste by all the jealousy and hate
By all the acid wit and rapier lies
And every time you think you're safe and when you go to turn away
You know they're sharpening all their paper knives

All in your mind, all in your head, try to relate it
All in your mind, all in your head, try to escape it

Without a conscience they destroy and that's a thing that they enjoy
They're a sickness that's in all our minds
They want to sink the ship and leave, the way they laugh at you and me
You know it happens all the time

All in your mind, all in your head, try to relate it
All in your mind, all in your head, try to escape it

The rats in the cellar, you know who you are
The rats in the cellar, you know who you are
The rats in the cellar, you know who you are
The rats in the cellar, you know who you are

Or do you? Or do you?
Or do you? Or do you?

Watching beginnings of social decay...

Unless you've cheated somebody over 500 Euros, or are taking credit for somebody else's hard work and badmouth and tell lies about them in public, you're not like one of those rats I'm dealing with.

Dude, did someone cheat you?  Fuck man.

Well, the part with the 500 Euros is a bit older, but until this week, that was my ultimate definition of a rat... but now that vermin has company.
