Hallowed changes tempo more than Paschendale as far as I can tell.  I'm not an expert by any means, so I may be technically wrong here, but that's what it sounds like to me.

Rime of the Ancient Mariner has the most "epic" feeling for me. All the things that lyrics told us give me a portrait so see what happened there and I can't run away from thinking about it. Another thing is changing of the melodies. Rime is a nonstable song, bridges, passages, everything is different from each other. Which is certainly a great thing. Hallowed Be Thy Name and Paschendale have far more repetitions than Rime. I'm not saying they're repetitive but there is a difference. I used to find Rime's slow middle part boring, because I used to think that the part was overextended. But nowadays, I think the length is perfect. That part prepares the listener to the rising part of the song. The rising of the tempo is unexplainable, everytime I listen to Rime of the Ancient Mariner, it always gave me a smile. Rime's solos are better than HBTN and Paschendale's if you ask me. For me, music is a feeling thing and Rime gives me more feeling than the other masterpieces. That's why Rime is the number one Iron Maiden song in my book.

I like the riff, but whole song is based on that riff, it just changes rhythms a bit. They even use variations of that riff in plenty of other maiden songs. The first one I can think of is Legacy.

And Paschendale does not repeat itself for 8 minutes.

i personally think that in many ways looking at both the 80's epics and 00+'s, the later are technically much better. While RoTaM and HbtN may be the unchallenged masters in the ratings and brilliant songs respectively. safe to say maiden wouldnt be maiden if they hadnt put out classics like them
BUT listening to songs like PFD and starblind, everything seems much better (certainly for me) the instruments seem to give more emotion as does bruces voice, perhaps with the band being together so long. Theres alot more emotion in every song, and less songs that can be considered filler material in comparison to say powerslave... or SiT(which i havent seen what you lot think of much but i doubt ill be agreed with  ^-^)

Just thought id voice my opinion that i  post 90's Maiden better
not by much like.

Thats interesting, I find SIT to be one of Maidens most consistent albums! :)

i wont argue with that,  but ive never got into SiT. Its consistent but with only wasted years and alexander the great getting regular plays the rest seems consistently mediocre (By Maiden standards), nothing really seems to stand out from the crowd and like some other albums the songs dont really have their own identity... going from track 3 through to 7 always feels like more of the same.
I think probably the only album of maidens that i cant listen all the way through. Consistent but unremarkable

Hey this is'nt piece of mind  ;)
just my opinion, never really got into SiT which is why i was astonished when it came to that portion of the survivor game.
i just dont see an improvement from powerslave in it but they more than made up for it with ssoass

Rime for me... my fav of all time!!  We read the poem in English class when Powerslave came out.  My freshman English teacher was cool.
