Love everything about what I saw and heard in that video. Should be an old-school, dynamic, analog sound, and possibly heavier than the last record.

The riff sounds about as heavy as Pale Communion stuff. I expect it to be that same 70s guitar sound again.

Just listened to a snippet, as I'd rather just listen to the whole album at once. Sounds like Newpeth.

Some of those riffs are pretty heavy. I don't know why they try to downplay that with the production and guitar tones.

Agreed, great riffs and amazing groove. I just wish it wasn't produced to reduce the heaviness.

Another cool song that I'm sure will sound twice as cool live.

EDIT: Overall, I really dig it, though. Sounds like slightly heavier Pale Communion.

I like it. The production sounds iffy (though I'm not sure what's the problem, something about the interplay of the instruments - especially drums - sounds off to me and it sounded strangely demo-ish to me, but I don't mind), but I enjoyed it a lot. I'm glad they're getting a bit heavier again.

Ahh I fucking missed it

Nevermind the radio one is still available

Edit: I like it. Guitar sound lacks crispness once more, which is disappointing, but the song itself is pretty good. Loved the vocals.

Looking at some of the comments on various websites, it's clear that "Opeth sucks nowadays" crowd has a certain rhetoric they stick to without even caring about the music itself. I saw a ton of comments saying this is "70s prog rehashed". I'm a 70s prog enthusiast and there sure wasn't anything this heavy in the 70s. This song goes into more the heavy metal direction than it does prog. The guitars are tuned down to A and there are chugging riffs for crying out loud. How on earth is that 70s prog?

Official lyric video:

The intro and outro are pointless, but I fucking love the meat of this song. Mikael sounds amazing and it's catchy in a very odd, Eternal Rains-type way. I am worried about the song structures based on this, though. It feels like three ideas crammed together for no reason, a la Heritage.

I get that vibe from the production, which lacks the polish that most hard rock and metal has currently. This includes the vocal production, too. Yes, it's much heavier, but the overall feel is very '70s to me. But that's clearly what Mikael has been going for in his post-Watershed Opeth, and I'd say he's accomplished it.

This song is creepy, weird, dynamic, and heavy -- all fundamental trademarks of Opeth. I still miss their more aggressive sound with the growlies, but this isn't bad and has more of a clear direction than Heritage. However, Pale Communion was a great record that has set the bar quite high for this one.

I thought the song was pretty good, definitely a heavy riff, but the melody didn't grab me. The lyrics were stupid, but I almost never pay attention to Opeth's lyrics anyway. I also thought the production was a little muddy -- though I wouldn't agree that it is a '70s feel, as most '70s hard rock recordings had greater separation and clarity than this track did.

I wonder which abbey ruin this is. Could be Tintern Abbey in Wales where Maiden recorded the Can I Play Madness vid.
