Olympic Games Rio 2016

Japan beat New Zealand with rugby!

Right now: The final of the women's artistic team all-around competition. And believe it or not: with the Netherlands! For the first time since 1976!
I don't expect them to get a medal but I'm still in awe that they made it.

This is true for most teams, but you sure wouldn't know it by looking at them.
Have you seen them? Looks very different from e.g. the Chinese and Japanese (who are way younger).

Anyway, here the results! Seventh place, not far behind Germany. Very good, I expect more from some individuals, later in the tournament!

1. Verenigde Staten 184,897
2. Rusland 176,688
3. China 176,003
4. Japan 174,371
5. Groot-Brittannië 174,362
6. Duitsland 173,672
7. NEDERLAND 172,447
8. Brazilië 172,087

Couple more Golds for Phelps,
... fine night of swimming for the US last night, 18 swimming medals for the US next closest is 4

Australia put up an amazing fight against United States in men's basketball, but U.S. prevailed again. If not for Carmelo Anthony turning into an absolute monster -like he usually does at the Olympics-, they might have won.

Phelps is just unreal, if he had gills, he would make a good dolphin.
A dolphin with gills, now that would be unreal :p

Not much top-class action involving Norwegian athletes so far, but today 40-year old Olaf Tufte (twice Olympic champion) and Kjetil Borch won bronze in the double sculler rowing event.

There are a few track and field athletes who might do well, and (as always) I have high hopes for the women's handball team. But apart from that, we don't have many medal hopes this time around.

He is that good .. a whole new species a Dolphish :)

Yeah, I would imagine Norway gets more excited about the Winter Games.

Very happy with the equestrian events so far. The GB team is currently in the silver medals position in team dressage, thanks mostly to London gold medallist Charlotte Dujardin getting the best score of the day with a brilliant test. She defends her individual title on Monday. It could make up for the eventing disappointment, where the cross country section was very technical, with lots of tight turns and narrow fences, resulting in refusals.

A lot of people here follow the Summer Games with interest as well, and the media coverage is solid. But I don't expect much success for us this time.

Personally I have usually watched a lot during the summer games, but this year I was burnt out on sports after EURO2016. Didn't watch too much of the Tour de France either. I need to warm into the games :)
