Official thread for Final Frontier discussion

Re: TFF has NO repeating choruses?

Do they really? I never noticed. I thought it was only 8 times in a row.

Repetition is The Angel and the Gambler. What is that, ninety times?

Another thought on the album - it's definitely more advanced in regard to the lyrics, while the music and arrangements could be better. IMO.

Re: TFF has NO repeating choruses?

The Final Frontier repetition also works because there is a melodic lead guitar in the background that changes during those lines.

I exaggerated, for comedic effect.

Re: TFF has NO repeating choruses?

It works for the song TFF... I love the way he sings the Final Frontier chorus.

In fact I kind of like repeating choruses to some degree because they are a bit more memorable and get stuck in your head a lot. Out Of The Silent Planet is in my head all the friggin time.

I like the arrangements.

Anyway, here's a thought…they've broken out of the standard "verse verse chorus verse chorus solo chorus chorus" progression in a lot of these songs…and I like that a lot!

Good point!

That is true, yes. That's a definite plus.

I don't know, the album is so overwhelming, a person can't properly judge it from just a couple of listens. I can't give a definite judgment, I've managed to go through the complete thing only once. After that, only a track at a time.

Re: Official thread for Final Frontier discussion (Spoilers inside)

I love how the rythms behind the solos are quite often melodies in themselves on this album, instead of just powerchords.

I can't seem to get into TMWWBK though. The vocals seem uninspired and the lyrics really aint that interesting. I also think theres too much going on during the middle section.
Hopefully it will grow on me.

Re: Official thread for Final Frontier discussion (Spoilers inside)

Not that it really matters now, but I'm quite surprised official audio samples aren't up at Amazon.

Re: Official thread for Final Frontier discussion (Spoilers inside)

I listened to the whole album today while running on my Elliptical Machine. I hypothetically ran just over two miles but I think that machine isn't very realistic in it's distance calculation because it shouldn't take me an average of 32 minutes to run a mile.

Isle of Avalon is torture because it's so damn long, and once it's over, you're only half way through the album.

Re: Official thread for Final Frontier discussion (Spoilers inside)

Well, its been 2 full days since I started this journey called TFF... I can now offer a valid opinion based on numerous listens...

My opinion is.....

FUCKING UNBELIEVABLE.  I HAVE COME TO THE CONCLUSION THAT THIS IS THE BEST ALBUM SINCE SSOASS. PERIOD.

For me, a fan since '81, this ranks right up there with SSOASS, and SIT. I would put it just behind POM, Poweslave, and TNOTB (in that order - and yes some of that has to do with nostalgia I am very certain)... That said, f you would have asked me yesterday, I would have put it on equal footing with DOD, and a lesser album than BNW & AMOLAD... This is the REAL DEAL. Songs 6 to 10 could round out separate album in and of themselves... Absolutely Incredible.

Thanks Bruce, Steve, Dave, Adrian, Janic and Nico - YOU MADE MY YEAR.

Cheers
Disclaimer.. I would rank it just behind SIT, SSOASS.. in that order, and no small feat. I cant imagine what I'll thinks once I really start getting into the lyrics, as for now I have only been focused on song structure, melodies, riffage, ryhthms, etc...

Re: Official thread for Final Frontier discussion (Spoilers inside)

Very nice critique Rivet..I too like this album as much as the older ones.  I have it Piece of mind, Powerslave, SSOASS then final Frontier and somewhere in Time a tie for fourth.  I mean it man, this album has given me a jolt I was not expecting.  I was thinking another AMOLAD with a space theme at best.

How these guys got their form back at this stage is unreal.  I have loved the reunion stuff, but it always seemed lesser than the pre 90's albums.  Not any more!!  Again just my opinion here: Coming home is my favorite 'new' song since infinite dreams.  I haven't been gaga on day one for a song like this in 20 years.  I can't put it away.  isle of Avalon, the Alchemist, Mother of Mercy and Starblind are as good as the next four on SSOASS to me also.  Really great 40+ hours in my life!!

Re: Official thread for Final Frontier discussion (Spoilers inside)

Someone posted a picture of the inside of the vinyl with the lyrics...anyone have that?

Re: Official thread for Final Frontier discussion (Spoilers inside)

wow, my first post on anything on a forum of any kind. wierd. Anyway...THE FINAL FRONTIER. its ridiculous how excited i am for this javascript:void(0); so, to those that have heard it, how similar is it to AMOLAD?

Re: Official thread for Final Frontier discussion (Spoilers inside)

A local radio station in Sao Paulo, Brazil has been playing all TFF tracks since Monday, one per hour. They'll air the whole thing Sunday evening (except El Dorado lol). This would be paradise 15 years ago! You guys know of anything like that happening elsewhere?
