Official Star Wars Thread

And this is why the EU is fucking stupid.

Agree ... I have tried to get into it a few times, but just could not. I thought some of the Star Trek EU books (from TOS) were actually pretty decent, but there are just so many ideas out there and so many "the universe is at stake" stories.

I was 7 years old when The Phantom Menace came out, and I can't even begin to speculate if I would have connected with it in the same way if I had been older, but connect with it I did. Still love the film. I can see the criticism people aim at the prequels, absolutely, but I really like all of the prequels for different reasons. To be honest, some of the most amazing moments of the series are found here - I'm referring to the lightsaber duel at the end of Episode I (which is my favourite moment of all six films), to the huge battle with all the Jedis in Episode II and to the introsequence in Episode III.

Really looking forward to Episode VI. There has been so much Star Wars products that there no longer exists anything to protect. The good stuff is still good, and the bad stuff is still bad. What is really positive about more films is that it means more control over the canon. Of course I want more films. My opinion is that Star Wars should have been left at what Lucas called "the tragedy of Anakin Skywalker" - the six films. But that line was crossed so long ago that it doesn't matter. Bring it on! It can't get any worse.

The first thing that got me really excited about the new film was
that concept art of the figure holding the mask of Darth Vader. If it really is Luke, well, that thought alone gives my goosebumps. I want this trilogy to be a continuation of the story of Darth Vader. Nothing else.

:jedi:

Got on a Star Wars kick reading all this. I watched Phantom Menace and AOTC today ... probably watch Episode III tomorrow

I hope that's hinting towards ditching the midichlorian crap. It may make Qui-Gon look stupider, but they could explain that by saying it was proven to be unrelated by science conducted by the Rebels after the war.

To be honest, I don't think the need for consistency is so strong as to require the midi-chlorian-business to be dealt with explicitly. (Just continuing on the original trilogy's understanding of the force will do.) Star Wars has grown too big for that form of consistency anyway. For example, Tolkien's stuff doesn't have a lot of consistency either, and it is perfectly fine.

Exactly ... a "the force is strong with this one" is just fine going forward

Luckily, Qui-Gonn Jinn was killed and I don't think explaining midichlorians was high on Obi-Wan or Yoda's list.

Is there going to be an Obi-Wan ghost? If so, would it be Ewan? That'd be pretty epic, tbh.

I would think they would be a bit limited ... I am sure Luke would not want the squid head Jedi ghost popping in when he was taking a leak

Funnily enough, we don't see a whole lot of people taking leaks in the Star Wars franchise. Did JarJar do it once?

Thing is, they're between a rock and a hard place. If they leave it be, the canon will remain that midichlorians are what influence the force. If they try to redact it, there's a chance they could make it worse. I'd rather them take the risk, considering that the midichlorians is the only thing from the prequels I absolutely despise.

Ewan McGregor did a great job as Obi Wan, and I'd love to see him back, even in a small capacity.
