Official Star Wars Thread

Well, they're not doing a blanket cut, but they're cutting back.

I would expect the first things to go will be anything that contradicts the stories for the new films. Stuff pre-Ep 1 will stand a far better chance of being canonized than the rest, the earlier in the timeline the better probably.

I'd be surprised if the Old Republic stuff (the stuff core to the games, Revan etc, not necessarily the novels written around that) got the axe. Even if the force powers were a bit nuts the games did very well and there was lore-wise a mass wipeout of force users to 'reset' it back to film levels if I recall, it also gives explanation as to the "always two" rule that Yoda refers to about the Sith in Ep1. Force Unleashed game is probably the one most likely for the chop out of that type of material, as the powers were a bit OTT.

EDIT: I wonder about the Clone War's TV series... I'd imagine it will stay canon, but you never know.

Cool .. the Durham Bulls (of Bull Durham fame) will be wearing these unis for Star Wars night

Hopefully the force is strong with this one. I am trying to keep my expectations in check (unlike the leadup to Episode 1), but that is a damn good cast and after seeing the JJ Trek films, I just think this is going to be awesome. Especially after watching the Star Trek documentaries and reading interviews where it seems JJ prefers building sets over CGI (I have nothing against CGI per se, but the prequels over did it IMO)

I would like to see Serkis act in a regular part instead of his usual. But as we all know his expertise, I fear it is a given what role he will have in the production. (He will play the great ape...)

Anyway, Adam Driver is the name that I am most interested in. I look forward to seeing how his role turns out, which as I gather will be the main villain of the new trilogy. The others... well, no name there except for von Sydow that makes me feel particularly good about the casting. I disliked Oscar Isaac in Robin Hood (2010) and Gleeson didn't make a lasting impression in Harry Potter (besides from looking too much like his father).

As one of the few who really liked Episode I-III (grew up with them and still get goosebumps from intro-sequence in The Phantom Menace) I look forward to more films.

When you've only got about 30 seconds in a huge movie to make your mark, you probably don't make one. I did like him in Dredd, though.

Interesting speculation I read elsewhere ... anyone think Sydow might be the ghost of Obi Wan .. Luke may still be talking to him
