There's a big chance is it's about the landing. Why?

Paschendale says enough doesn't it? A song from the last album telling the tale of a 20th century war fase, co-written by our beloved Adrian Smith. ;)

It's a bit like going back to 1984 and saying, before the release of the Powerslave album,  that 'Flash Of The Blade' is most probably about the Cossacks because the previous album had 'The Trooper' on it, a song about the Crimean War.  :innocent:

Hmmm...perhaps, but 'Flash of the Blade' is a bit vague-here we know that there is a book and film called 'The Longest Day', and look at the number of a) War songs maiden have released:

1. Invaders
2. The Mercenary
3. Out of the Silent Planet (aftermath of war?)
4. Montsegur [r]
5. Paschendale [r]
6. Face in the Sand (war on terror) [r]
7. Afraid to Shoot Strangers [r]
8. Aces High [r] [f]
9. 2 Minutes to Midnight (Nuclear war)
10. Tailgunner [r]
11. Run Silent, Run Deep [r] [f]
12. Run to the Hills [r]
13. The Trooper [r]
14. Back in the Village
15. Alexander the Great (hell, any biopic of him had to include his Asian wars ;)) [r]
16. The Clansman [r]
17. Como Estais Amigo [r]
18. Fortunes of War
19. The Aftermath
20. The Edge of Darkness [ b ] [f]
21. Where Eagles Dare [f] [ b ]

21 songs connected with war in some way (I may have missed some); those marked [r] have a clear-cut reference to a real event in history (in the case of Tailgunner, it has real place names of targets during WWII).  Those marked [ b ] or [f] are based on a book or a film, which is what 'The Longest Day' will be if it is about D-Day.  As we can see, the only song not based on a well-known book that features the same title is 'Out of the Silent Planet'.  On the other hand, if what Steve says about religion-based songs on this album is true, then it could be something entirely different, about the crusades or some other historical event.  Or it could be a hypothetical situation, a la '2 Minutes...'

EDIT: Reminded Computer that a b in square brackets does not necessarily mean I want everything in bold, and if I do, I will tell the computer to do that, thank it very much.

Also remembered that Where Eagles Dare is an adaptation as well...

^_^ Reminds me of a certain word processor...

Good post Silky, although I still have to say that many titles have more than one possible meaning ('Tailgunner' not excluded ). And it's not a flaw, in my opinion, on the contrary. I'm a big fan of hidden and double meanings. -_-

I'm a bit late, but I think I should post my opinion, too ;)
First of all, that cover artwork is a cheap fake. Look at the Iron Maiden Logo, anyone notice something odd with the letter spacing? IF I was going to fake something like that, I'd do it right ;)

I was about to post this assumption about Benjamin Breeg being Benjaming Briggs, the topic sounds very maiden-ish to me.
However, I'm looking forward to that new album, and until then I will have a good laugh watching all those fake artworks coming up ;)

And we can always listen to the leaked track. :P
Allright! I get it now!  :o This is the "Stairway" cover isn't it? What a pity they decided not to play the solo....
Where can I pre-order that single? Any T-shirt release already planned??

I can't wait!

Thank God for the "preview" button. ;) A little like doing a list 1)....6) 7) 8) 9) etc.

Remind Silky if he wants to end the bold function he must do it himself " [/b]" :)

Not really, Adrian has only been into these subjects pretty recently. And Flash of the Blade had a different author from The Trooper.
I expected more brain from you Mav. Especially on these kind of subjects !

;)

It was the first example off the top of my head. Maybe not a good one.

I still think your argument is not valid, though.  ;)

Does it really matter what the song is about?  We'll find out when the album's released.  And for all we know, 'The Longest Day' may not be about D-Day...it could be about 21st June... :p

These titles sound so weird... that I just want them to find their way to my CD-Player ASAP.... :D

I really can't wait for this release, but there are other things that I'm waiting to happen in the mean time, so I won't boil too hard...

Who remember when Kevin said that they were calling a song "The Rime Of Billy Bunter"? (The one about a eccentric novelist)

And now, what song of the album is "The Rime Of Billy Bunter"??

The first thing that cames up my mind is... The Reincarnation Of Benjamin Breeg... just because of the first letters... "BB"...

And, I found it: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Billy_Bunter

I got this in an email....

"My colleague who was in London  heard the album, told me that it's a combination of "Piece of mind" and "Somewhere in time" with a very good production. Almost all the songs, apart from 2, are over 6 minutes long, and the song "Pilgrim" reminded him of the "Flight of Icarus". At least that's what he told me!!!
Everyone there, agreed though, that it's far better than "Dance of death" ..."

The anticipation grows.....

That's nothing, once in an e-mail I got an offer of a free mastectomy.

It seems like the person who "reviewed" this album hasn't listened to it, just repeated what other sources have said.

He could go and work for Kerrang! and MetalHammer, then. :p
