Isn't Kovy ususally used in reference to Ilya Kovalchuk? I don't remember hearing that name for Kovalev.

Penner to LA, he's a good player, but the deals surrounding him (the original signing by the Oil a few years ago, and this trade) are preposterous.

I guess it's used in context. I've seen Kovalev has been playing since before Kovalchuck, so for me "Kovy" is Kovalev, however, I've used it for both players once it has been understood who is being discussed.

A lot of trades have happened, but no real blockbusters if that's what you mean, LC. I thought the Bruin deals were big, but obviously people are looking at the Stars and the Oilers to see what they do. They have a few hours left, don't they?

I heard Kovalev called AK27 before....I think he has a Warrior Hockey Stick called that. Big feature is that it will work when you first get it then aft6er the first 10 games it only works when it feels like it :P
Why did'nt Sather sweeten the Brad Richards' pot by offering Lunqvist too. Actually I am glad he realized Richards would not get the Rangers the Cup.

NO ONE would get the rangers the cup... They are a work in progress. Honestly, the only great player they have is King Henrik. Dubinsky is breaking out, but he needs consistency, Staal is still young, I give them two more seasons to get a good team.

Ahh, the Redden contract. That really has to go down as one of the worst in NHL history. Though as a Sens fan, I can't help but snicker that he is no longer our problem :P

LC... I can't believe you think "nothing happened" just because a Gretzkeyesque player wasn't moved. Did you take a look at your hated rival Toronto? They LOADED UP on picks like there's no tomorrow. Everyone gave Burke crap for calling July 1st his "draft," but clearly his eyeing the actual draft. Now it's just a matter of using thos picks wisely in the players he drafts or trades the picks for.

Personally I am very happy with what the Bruins did, they have the ability to go deep this postseason.

You're right, man. But they loaded up BEFORE deadline day. Not on it. Unless you call getting a 7th round pick "loading up". They did good beforehand, most moves were made beforehand.

Hey, calm down, they beat the Sens this month.

Montreal - and especially Carey - is coming around. I was insistent on Price for so long. He's vindicating me. He's a great player. Hell, TSN suggested that he'll be the starter for the next Canadian Olympic team. I just want him to play great hockey in Montreal for the next 15 years.

Yeah, Price is finally coming into his own. He's got the weight of the hockey world on his shoulders. I was a little iffy on Gainey's decision to unload Halak and put all his money on Price, but that is why he is the Montreal GM and I'm not.

Rangers still need scoring. Same song for the past 3 seasons. If they can keep a top scoring line together without the injury bug hitting it, they might be able to stop the collapse. But with Gaborik still out and Drury being a 3rd liner, I just don't see it happening.

By Gainey you mean Gauthier, as Gainey retired halfway through last season. But yes, absolutely.

Now, you're right there, the Rangers are hampered by some bad contracts, though. And their drafting hasn't helped either. It's sad, because they have such a great goalie.

Yeah, that is who I meant lol. I forgot Gainey retired.

The Rangers have a good young core of blueliners too. Girardi, Staal and Del Zotto. They just need to have a guy who is a threat to score everytime he has the puck, like Jagr was. Gaborik is just a guy who is a threat to get injured. Dubinsky and Callahan are good players, but not elite level snipers. Just hate to see everygame to be up to Lunqvist because he does'nt get enough goal support.

The Rangers could win if Lundqvist went on a tear, though he's quite a good goalie, he's no Hasek :P

Actually, funnily enough, Lundqvist's best season (last year's) went completely unheralded, but his reputation coming out of his very strong rookie season earned him two undeserved Vezina nominations in '07 and '08.

He was quite good those years. Last year, though, was there anyone close to Miller? They basically put the next 10 goalies into a hat and pulled out those names. Everyone knew who the winner was there.

This year, everyone knows it's Timmy T, unless Carey can pick up his game hardcore down the stretch.

Last year, Rask arguably played better, but I agree that Miller was the obvious (and correct) choice.  Though imo, Vokoun and probably Howard should have gotten the other nominations.

As for this year, Thomas is the winner by default right now.  Unless he tanks, no one else deserves it.  Other than that though, I'd take Hiller, Rinne, or Backstrom before Price in this year's race.
