Official Hockey discussion thread

I've missed a lot of hockey lately. I finally got a job and I'm working 13hr days which leave little time for TV and internet. Has been playing well in OTT?

I do too. He's got talent, but Colorado crapped out. He might be the latest victim of the ever-rotating Ottawa goalie pool.

Tell me about it. I can't recall a single 'franchise goalie' for the senators in... ever. Leclaire and Elliot come close, but they keep getting hurt. Emery was a HUGE disappointment... Hasek... not even going there. So yeah, hopefully Anderson can hold on.

You boys watch the Heritage last night? Carey Price had his mask painted to look like Jaques Plante's original mask. Looked bad ass. They had issues with the ice being to hard too.

I had no problem with Calgary winning :D. Teams out of playoff contention seem to thrive on being spoilers for those wanting to hold on to a good spot or close to getting a "good" seed.

The hell are you talking about? Calgary's back in it, they're like 16-3-2 since Christmas. They're 6th in the West.

So? they are only two points ahead of the teams in 7th-11th. If Chicago wins two and Calgary stays idle and losses one, they fall to 7th and Chicago leap frogs to 6th... provided ALL the other teams don't do well either... it is still anyone's game in the west.

Trades!

TBL trades Ellis to Anaheim for McElehenny (sp?). Anaheim gets a 2nd goalie who might be able to play; TBL frees up a million to go for a big name player in anticipation of a Cup run.

MTL trades picks and prospects to ATL for Sopel. Sopel won the cup last year and gives Montreal another veteran presence on a depleted D-line for the stretch run.

Ottawa sends Kovalev to Pittsburgh for a 6th or 7th round pick. To compensate, Ottawa claims Svatos off waivers.

Pittsburgh gets a veteran forward who can score when he chooses. Good moves for playoff teams; Anaheim looks to actually make the playoffs.

Not to mention, Kovy's best years were in Pittsburgh :D, and with Neal from Dallas they may finally get a decent top 2 lines once crosby gets back.

I watched the Devils-Panthers game last night and wouldn't you know, the Panthers have an ad for the IRON MAIDEN concert on the boards. They are on the end boards, just off the goalie's right shoulder on the end that the Panthers shoot on twice.

Kovy is a good player when he wants to be. Very sporadic.

Joe Nieuwendyk offered the services of this season's most sought after rental, Brad Richards, to the Rangers in exchange for Dubinsky, Staal and Prospal. I heard Glenn Sather laugh all the way here.
Going to see Maiden in Tampa on April 17th!! Taking my 8 year old daughter and my wife to their first show :edmetal:

I would have laughed too, losing all your best for a rental? fuck that. Kovy is perfect for pittsburgh, feels comfortable in the city and team, already scored twice, filling in while the big guns get back and don't have to sign him next year :p

Sather will simply sign Richards in the off season to one of his patented overpriced contracts.

This is the most boring trade deadline ever. I want Edmonton to move Hemsky and Penner so that we can say something ACTUALLY happened. So far the biggest move is Washington picking up Dennis Wideman.

Isn't Kovy ususally used in reference to Ilya Kovalchuk? I don't remember hearing that name for Kovalev.

Penner to LA, he's a good player, but the deals surrounding him (the original signing by the Oil a few years ago, and this trade) are preposterous.
