Well, season over. I guess they did well to push it to 7. One more salary cap purge this off season, then they should be good for a few years. I would say a disappointing end to the year, but given the purge last year and how much millage these guys have on them over the past several years, they did better than expected. Again, the playoff format sucks ... by the end of round 2, you will have 2 of the 3 best teams in the conference gone just by the way the brackets are set up. They should really go back to the division winners get the top 2 seeds and the rest go by record.

Onto baseball season

Yeah, I really like that way of doing it. Preserve the best teams, and make the underdogs earn it (like the Kings or the Oilers).

That game between the Blues and the Stars last night was incredible. Great back-and-forth hockey, absolute killer moments - like when Elliott went down, and an awesome ending. Plus I'm quite cheering for the Blues to win that series. I'd love to see them finally win a championship, and Hitchcock too.

Ducks fired Boudreau, and the Sens reached out to him almost immediately.

Local NHL news: the guy who owns the Senators was given the contract to redevelop an area downtown called the Lebreton Salt Flats into an arena centre, which means I won't have to go to fucking Kanata to watch a hockey game anymore!

Agreed. I don't love the Sharks but I wouldn't cry if they finally won a cup. Big Joe deserves one before he's done as well.

Any thoughts on the San Jose - Pittsburgh Finals?

I'd personally like to see the Sharks take it, although I won't be too disappointed with either outcome.

Personally, I'm torn. I like Pittsburgh - and I am a big Sidney Crosby fan. It's always fun when Halifax gets a Stanley Cup parade.

But I would really like to see Jumbo and Marleau win a cup.

I really do not care ... Not a fan nor dislike either team. It would have been better if the Blues/Stars/Hawks would have come out of the west. Nothing against the Sharks, but they got a big benefit with the way the seeding worked out.

It's interesting that they managed to bounce back after a blowing a 3-0 series lead in the first round against the Kings in 2014 and after missing the playoffs last year.

That team has always been on the cusp of making it. We'll see if they can even it up tonight. Either way it's been pretty good hockey.

Yeah, as an example, they propably should have made the finals even back in 2004, but the Calgary Flames came straight out of nowhere and won 4-2 in the Conference Finals that year.

Pittsburgh wins, but my sense is that they are really dominating the series - more shots, more scoring chances, better advanced stats. Feel bad for the Sharks.

Martin Jones has been spectacular. Pretty sure the Pens have outshot the Sharks every game this series.

Pittsburgh wins and Crosby is named the Conn Smythe winner. Interesting pick, but the first one probably seriously influenced by advanced statistics, so I think it is relevant to the future of hockey.

Crosby played most of his time against Thornton, Marleau, and Pavelski and helped keep all three of the big three for San Jose from scoring a point. All series. That's Bob Gainey-level defensive playing.

Don't mind the Penguins win.
No one would have predicted it six months ago.

Kessel holding the cup looks good on Leaf nation.
