Denmark defender, Mathias Jorgensen said prior to the qualifier with Ireland;

"You can change the manager, but cannot change the players. It doesn't make the style any different. We all know which way Ireland will play. They will come to our stadium, sit back and be happy to play for a draw. Our main priority will be to watch Shane Duffy from set-pieces."

The game finished 1-1. Ireland equalised in the 85 minute with, you guessed it, a Shane Duffy header from a free kick. Love it.

Fucking hell. Russia beat San Marino 9-0. I haven't seen a scoreline like that in a while as the wee diddy countries usually park the bus against the top countries in qualifying.

Douch begs.
Fair play to Pickford today, scored a pen the saved one. Too bad it was all in aid of a pointless game. Whole thing to Magaluf for a week of Smirnoff Ice now.

Happy that England finally seemed to have broken the penalty curse, even if it was for a drab pointless game. It's a shame we've picked up a VAR one instead:(

Also the first time since Euro 96 all English players scored in a shootout

@The Flash should come back to tell us about Turkey becoming World Champions last night. They beat France 2-0 and judging by the highlights it could have been more.

Insert kebab

Was a very pleasant surprise. Turkey once again has a national team that can actually play good football. Very young squad, too, a lot of newcomers.

Brought back to earth with a bump by Iceland though?

Has anyone been watching the Women's World Cup at all? I've followed it a bit since Scotland managed to qualify for the first time, but sadly and predictably they've been pretty poor. One of the most notable things about Women's football is that there isn't much diving and rolling around compared to the Men's game, and I think that leads to the referees allowing more hacking challenges to pass by which makes the flow of the games much better. With the increasing profile of women's football though I reckon the added level of professionalism will cause that sort of thing to creep in.

I think you are right. I haven't been watchin but last I seen, the womens game had a good mix; the quality has improved but the inevitable wankery of divin etc hasn't quite got in. Its quite refreshing. But aye, its bound to come in so these may be the glory days of the womens game in terms of spectacle.

Iceland is just a bad match-up for Turkey. Turkey is notoriously bad at defending set pieces, it's a chronic problem that seems to haunt every generation of players. They conceded both goals from set pieces this time around, too.

Cameroon just gave away an indirect free kick from a pass back and England scored from the indirect free kick. I haven't seen a pass back and indirect free kick since the late 90s.

The English ladies have taken inspiration from the men's team ... going out of the World Cup in the semi-final after missing a penalty. Admittedly, it's not a penalty shootout, but close enough.

What a hate (or "fun" whatever you call it) against a team that didn't do anything good in many years. This World Cup, for the first time they threatened to took the title and hell breaks loose on this forum. I find that a bit out of place, guys. Anyway, a 3rd place for England would still be one of the best team efforts of all teams. Looking at where they came from.

They were unlucky at the end but next year I see them doing well in EURO 2021 as well.
