NOW WATCHING

Agora. Fully expected this to hit the cinemas around Spring time. I finally cracked and Dl'ed it. Amenabar's latest opus looks amazing but suffers from poor casting and a race to the finish line  Set in Egypt in the fourth century pagans and christians hate each other *yawn. Hypatia (played by the beautiful Rachael Weisz) is the voice of reason throughout. She's an astronomer, a mathmatician and clearly a genius. She questions her beliefs (nobody else's) and obsesses over the earth's movement.

The main problem I have with it is Weisz is so fucking good in the role that she exposes the other actors short comings. Not a glimpse of charisma among any of them. Pity because the latter scenes required strong acting. Alas we get adequate and it's a damn shame because Weisz really does knock it out of the park. Better cast, more set up would've helped a lot. Still worth a watch 3/5

Mad Men is sooooo good. I've just finished the 9th episode "Shoot" and Betty Draper was just amazing in this one. I hope there are others here who follow this show. Final scene of that episode is TV genius.

Love this show, look forward to it every Sunday ... Got the first 3 seasons on DVD.  It is very well done from a period perspective, the story is interesting, and Joan has huge boobs ... what more could you want?

After reading something about Jumper being a bit of a poor film (so said some critics), I decided to wacth it anyway. After all, critics just voice their opinion and it is not always agreeable with me.

Well, if you take the film for what it is - just a plain old action movie with a basic plot of people being able to jump through anomalies (or "jump scars") and are transported to wherever on the planet, then its an enjoyable movie. If you try to break it down to over analyse the plot etc. you are likely to find fault.* Switch your brain off and enjoy the ride.

* That said, from what I gather and from his accent used, Jamie Bell plays a Northern English lad - and I know it is petty, but he would not use a phrase like "rookie". It would simply be "amateur".

I take it you only tuned down your brain instead of switching it off :p

That bit did niggle me, but I guess I was just a little bit more in tune at that very moment. :D

What do you get if you put Kill Bill, 300 and a strip club in a blender? Bitch Slapped! THAT'S what! What a ridiculously entertaining movie. Completely brainless... but VERY fun... CHECK IT OUT!

A Mob Kingpin is being sought out by a gang leader and a secret agent and somehow a stripper and a psychotic criminal get involved as  not so innocent bystanders.

I finally saw Toy Story 1 & 2 made in 1995 and 1999 respectively.  The plan was to rent the third one, so I needed to know the plot of the first two.  I enjoyed them both.  When these first two came out, I was not into animated films.

Saw Scott Pilgrim Vs the World last night and the poster was right. It really is an epic of epic epicness. :D My only complaint is that Michael Cera plays the same character in every single movie he does. The only stretch he's done is in Youth in Revolt where he also portrays his alter ego.

Aside from that GREAT movie.

The Social Network.

A movie about the makers of facebook: meh.

Directed by Fincher: Okay I'll download it.

Screenplay by Aaron Sorkin: I'm fucking there!!!!

All Fincher had to do was show up and point the camera. This is the Sorkin show. His trademark fast talking wit is all over it and he has this ability to make you sympathize with and even root for total assholes. Just as well too, as a movie about the creation of facebook and the subsequent court cases could've been dreadful. Thankfully Sorkin brings his A game and even has a little cameo. I can't give it a perfect score though because it's all a little "soulless" I guess...just like facebook. 4/5.
