NOW WATCHING

He did that again on one of the elephants, didn't he?

Yes, it turns out he did!

Surfing the oliphant is way worse than surfing the stairs, but possibly because the resolution to the Battle of the Pelennor is one of my least favourite parts of the trilogy. Fucking ghosts.

The chat box was the most entertaining thing tonight, although the non-Download Gojira footage was excellent. Fingers crossed for more decent Gojira stuff tomorrow.

I thought Indiana Jones was supposed to be cartoonish.

It's definitely meant to be over the top and humorous, but I don't think they purposefully aimed for silly or cartoonish. There's that part in Egypt where Marion is being chased by generic bad guy, she has a pan/skillet in hand. She smiles, wiggles her eyebrows and turns to run, baddy gives chase. She goes into a house and he gingerly goes inside, we here a cartoon BOINK as he gets hit over the head off camera and then he just falls on his back outside of the house. THAT was cartoonish and there is a lot of that.

Compare that to What Indy does in that same chase scene (he has his own cartoon moments mind you), he is fighting off gbg after gbg, then he gets to the mini-boss fight as a baddy dressed all in back pulls out some swords and does some impressive moves. He is taller and more muscular than Indy. What does he do? Pull out his gun and shoot the guy. THAT was funny.

An argument can definitely be made for it, but I saw the second scenario as subverting expectations and character building rather than a blatant bugs bunny/Elmer Fud routine.

I don't think we should look that deeply into it. It's well-known why the scene is the way it is and the way it appears in the film it's hardly more than a gag.

Agreed. It did bring back memories of people going ape shit with Indy surviving the Nuke in KOTCS, but the same people didn't mind the jumping out of a plane in an inflatable raft and then falling a second time off a cliff into some rapids.

It might have been better if they'd acted like an actual army and not a deluge of ghosts sweeping everything away.

No, she hasn't. I think the Stalin book is upside down now. More music tonight. Not music I like, but not as much talking
