NOW WATCHING

Seen BvS:

Critics were right. It's such a mess.

Dialogue was awful. They all talk as if they are delivering a speech to 1 million people, all the time.

Lex Luthor / Eisenberg: Failed experiment. Mostly because of writing, Eisenberg is a good actor.

Apart from the ending and Superman's "death", we saw the whole movie in the trailer, as predicted.

We didn't need to see Batman's parents dying again... I also saw no point of Superman talking to his father on that mountain, dafuq was that all about.
Perry White spouting article titles was cheesy. Bruce Wayne sending an e-mail to Wonder Woman... incredible lazyness. I would've been OK with that if they all had their own movies before but this was just such a fucking lazy way to introduce them. The Flash in Bruce Wayne's dream, dafuq was that all about? Probably won't see that movie anyway because I don't like that actor at all. Batman and Superman stop fighting because their mothers have the same name lel. Batman saying he's Superman's friend like minutes after trying to kill him lel

Batman vs Superman - actual fight was pretty great, Batman made Superman his little bitch. Batman was the best part of the movie IMO. Affleck's Batman is just way more menacing than any previous incarnation / actor. Lots of people had a problem with him killing people but he only really did it by blowing up stuff from his car, not hand to hand. I wouldn't mind either way.

Then the whole Superman dying thing, would've had a better impact if they didn't do it in their 2nd movie, we all know he's gonna come back for the Justice League movie... speaking off, Zack Snyder needs to be booted from those movies.

Wonder Woman should've been handled way differently. I don't really like Gal Gadot but she's not the problem. Never should've been announced that she's Wonder Woman before the actual movie came out. She shouldn't have been in the trailers either. There was no real mystery as to who she was.

There's like one joke in the entire movie. I understand DC =/= Marvel, but c'mon, it's based on comic books.

Just came back from Batman v Superman. Seriously impressed!
The reviews have left me even less certain of whether or not I'm gonna like it than when the trailers came out, but this seals the deal for me. I'm probably not going to like it.

Zack Synder said:
Speaking to the Wall Street Journal ahead of ‘Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice’s’ impending release Zack Snyder explained how he was recently confronted about the level of collateral damage in ‘Man Of Steel’, with the individual insisting that he’d never seen such a high level in a recent film.
This led Snyder to respond with, “I went, ‘Really?’ And I said, ‘Well, what about [’Star Wars: The Force Awakens’]?’ In ‘Star Wars’, they destroy five planets with billions of people on them. That’s gotta be one of the highest death toll movies in history, the new ‘Star Wars’ movie, if you do the math.”

I will see Batman V Superman tomorrow. Even though the critics are lashing it, the fans' online reviews are very praising and excited.
We have a thread for Marvel movies. Time to start one for DC?

Got to see Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice

The film itself was absolutely terrible, one of the worst superhero movies i've seen IMO (but what else could you expect from Zack Snyder) Having said that however I'm really excited for the next Batman movie because Ben Affleck & Jeremy Irons were great in it, probably the best acting I've ever seen from Affleck actually

To each his own. I can't stand Marvel's forced humor and am not a fan of the genre in general. Nolan's Batman trilogy is great, the X Men ones with Stewart and KcKellen quite good, but otherwise? I really liked BvS. More serious in tone, great music, and never as streamlined as the Marvel films.

Watching Terminator Salvation. Ten minutes in I realised that I had seen it after all and it's not particularly enjoyable. While I don't object to new storyline or extra background in a long-running franchise, this sadly fails to have the feel of a Terminator film at all. Rise of the Machines wasn't ideal, but at least it felt darker than this, and Genisys has a certain amount of novelty value and humour about it. Salvation is a slightly generic sci-fi/action film which happens to have a vaguely Terminator theme to it.

Batman V Superman. My son said "the critics got it wrong" and I agree. This is the superhero film I have been waiting for.

Sure it is a busy film and jumps around quickly but
there are a lot of scenes that serve as forecasting in the future films of the franchise:
1. When Batman has a vision of the future it appears to be inspired by Injustice Gods Among Us (in which Superman turns into a tyrant)
2. Flash wearing armor over his costume appearing to Bruce in a vision is actually a visit from the future as seen in Crisis On Infinite Earths
3. Death of Superman at end of film is taken directly from the same titled story line
4. Between the parademons in Batman's nightmare of the future and Lex's comments at the end about "he is coming" HE must be Darkseid.
5. The film does its' job which is to basically be a prequel for Justice League.

Seeing Wonder Woman FINALLY on the big screen was very emotional for me and long overdue but worth it. Sure I was not happy about the casting of Gal Gadot at first, but she was great.
Ben Affleck NAILED his role.
And, as the trailers show, finally seeing the Trinity on screen was breath taking.

I decided to stop being an ignoramus about movies and start properly watching some films. I assume many would be envious of me for having not seen almost any of the classics. I sure am envious of people who have the chance to hear a great album for the first time. I'd assume it's the same for movies.

Although emphasizing the value of discovery, I decided to start with an old favorite. The Shawshank Redemption. Saw this movie on a bus trip from Samsun to Ankara about a decade ago. I was a 10 year old kid with not much worry on his head. I've always remembered how powerful I thought the movie was that throughout my years of not watching movies, The Shawshank Redemption was my go-to answer for "What's your favorite movie?". Now, as a 20 year old, who lives in that city that I was travelling to, the movie is still as strong as it was the first time around.

Shawshank is a great film, a modern classic. Are you taking votes on what you should watch next?

I nominate Batman vs Superman.

I've been doing a similar project, but I tend to prefer spending my free time with music related things, so it takes me longer to actually get to these movies. Right now I've got the following classics saved on Netflix:

  • Scarface
  • Goodwill Hunting
  • From Dusk Til Dawn
  • The Shining
  • Full Metal Jacket
  • a Clockwork Orange
  • Blade Runner
  • The Fly
  • Metropolis
And like I said, this is just the Netflix list. The real challenge is knowing where to start.

The real challenge is knowing where to start.

Anywhere. Seriously. You can waste a lot of time trying to figure out where to start, or you can just start anywhere. If you feel it was the wrong place, you can rectify that mistake on the go. Just pop in the first film on your list on the next occasion.

Watched School of Rock just now. It was much worse than I expected. I love Linklater, but this is definitely one of his worst movies, so much I wouldn't even recognise him.

The end was pleasant, but the first half was almost unbearable. Just... awkward and unfunny. I also expected more in-jokes - only the scene with handing out the "homework" CDs was a bit more esoteric, otherwise it was quite shallow and tame. I also believe Jack Black is really talented, he is just not able to use his talent in a way which I would appreciate. Pity. :(

It's an OK movie, your expectations are just too high for a movie about giant robots fighting giant monsters :P
