NOW WATCHING

Best song, OK, screw best song. But the sound categories are different because those are two wildly different careers that have to come together on a film.

I've decided to discard Six Feet Under completely and postpone True Blood and The Wire for the time being, because the first one just seemed getting stupider and stupider to me and the latter two were no fun at all... I mean, I respect The Wire, it's very cleverly written, with myriads of characters and with an undeniable amount of genuine care thrown into the product, but it just bores me. And I say that as a guy who made it into the 4th season alright.

So we started American Horror Story and Mad Men, having seen first two episodes of both. And we're both pretty excited, cause - while very different from each other - both series are very fun and well-made. We'll see what tomorrow brings! :)

For all animation fans, seek out this show. Really good animated show I've recently discovered called Over The Garden Wall. Apparently it only ran for 10 episodes back a few years ago on Cartoon Network. Each episode is only 12 min long (so give it a shot)

This is the best clip i could find on YouTube quality wise of episode 2, but it has Italian subs. I'm sure you can find the rest there in various degrees of quality!

This show was great! Also the last role of Tim Curry

Watched House of Cards season 4. It was very good, better than the last one and easier to follow than the second. I didn't particularly care about what was going to happen when season 3 ended, but now I feel really annoyed about the wait for the continuation... Lots of interesting things happened. And man, Spacey is so good in this series.

Finished up Man in the High Castle. Through 7 Episodes I thought it was a good to really good show, but the last 3 elevated it to the near great category. I have not read the book, so it was all a surprise to me. The last scene of the season was really cool, but shitty because I need to wait until the next season comes up.

On the good news side, Bosch Season 2 is on Amazon now and Bates Motel started back up. 1st 2 seasons of Bates were decent to pretty good, but season 3 really picked it up a notch, look forward to see where they go from there.

After watching nearly the whole of season 1 of Mad Men, my intake of cigarettes and alcohol increased thousandfold. The advertisement really works, methinks, so the series is more meta than I thought.

Also seen Deadpool today. It was fun, but nothing earth-shattering. Still good for a few laughs, though. Looking forward to seeing The VVitch, which is supposed to be one of the few horrors that are actually respected as movies, not just cheap thrills... But who knows. Anyone seen it?

Saw Zootopia and really liked it.

The trailers they were showing before other movies that only highlighted one scene (albeit a very funny one) made me worry that the movie only had that one scene to offer, but it really had a lot more than that. Really good animation, comedy, and took on issues of prejudice without coming off as preachy or forced. Probably my favorite in this recent slew of Disney movies. The only complaint I can think of is how they shoehorned in Shakira for that meh pop song.

I've gotten on a Brendan Gleeson/McDonagh kick in the last week in honor of the "holiday". Watched The Guard and Calvary and found the former to be incredibly enjoyable and the latter to be exceptional. The Guard is a good romp and Calvary is a beautiful portrait of faith and integrity.

Neither John Michael film is as complete or perfect as Martin's In Bruges, but both are entertaining and well-rounded. Of course, I could watch Gleeson read the phone book and still rate it at least 8/10.

What if he read it then ripped it in half? That would push your rating up to nine, yes? Everyone always says you can do that with phone directories; it's all about technique...

Just watching Prometheus (2012) again; saw it in the cinema the first time around. Still can't believe how disappointing this film is.

David's infatuation with Peter O'Toole is probably the only decent idea in it...

I need to watch that one again. As someone wanting to find out the 'background' to the origins of the Xenomorphs, I enjoyed it at the cinema. But once the novelty of new Alien universe plot wears off, I imagine there's not much to it in terms of screenplay and drama. It also suffers Franchise Sickness, ie trying to explain and reveal too much, instead of leaving some mystery out there.
