Priest needed some ''metal'' in Turbo, it's normal.

Early days songs overall vibe in Maiden or Priest? Can't see it now. Be Quick is unique. Aces and 2 Minutes? I guess Death Or Glory and Speed Of Light. You mean more like a lyrics approach? Well, Maiden are a more serious band now. So Boots-type of song... Montsegur?
We are getting the fun attitude from the melodies.
Two short kick ass rockers per album would be nice. In my book, Stratego and Days of Future Past do not fall in that category. Death or Glory was very good, imo. I agree that they are serious now. But cmmon, being serious all the time becomes so tiresome.

More short rockers in general per album. Not just 2, like 3-4.
Isn't Stratego like Death Or Glory? Tempo-wise. Kick ass rockers (you mean like in tempo, right, because Stratego and even Days Of Future Past are pure gold imo) are like: Futureal, Alchemist, Speed Of Light, When The River Runs Deep (without the slow chorus), New Frontier, Rainmaker, Wicker Man, Mercenary. Something not that serious now are the lyrics of Time Machine, I guess.

Stratego is nice song but is more contemplative? Futureal, musically alone, is the last truly monstrous explosive Maiden's short rocker. Musically it is very high in the ranks. The Wicker Man is a short rocker - very good. New Frontier, Rainmaker, Wildest Dreams - short rockers without cojones, imo. Maybe nice songs but without that "oomph" feeling.
About Time Machine... I wrote after release of the album... I don't like what protagonist in the lyrics is doing. All he is doing, he is bragging that he has Time Machine and that he have lived a very colorful life. But he does not show us any wonders, not going into specifics and that sucks big time, imo.

I suppose one can say that about Futureal, but not by a long shot, we have close examples. Such a great and pure Maiden rocker. I can't agree about Rainmaker and even New Frontier (which chorus may not be the most impactful). Stratego lyrics are deeper, yes.
Regarding The Time Machine, I understand you and we know Steve could write some interesting stories based on time travels, but it's also an interesting way of writing for once.

Gosh, Age of Innocence is even worse 22 years later. What a cringe fest! A shame, because the rest of the album is pretty good, with Paschendale being the standout track. Quite possibly their heaviest album since Powerslave. :edmetal:

Agree about DOD. Heaviest since Powerslave? Maybe AMOLAD. Although Monstegur (Powerslave vibe), Age, Lies and Paschendale are heavy.

Back then they wanted to have 2-3(at most) standout longer songs in an album. Paschendale, title track.

Age Of Innocence is odd. And not just the lyrics. It's probably my least favorite Reunion era song. It's like Steve and Dave wanted to write a ''different'' song again (after Thin Line for the previous album) and one that has a an early 2000's metal vibe. Some of the vocal ideas could have been in a Bruce solo song, not Maiden. Although Dave was in a mood to write heavier songs back then. It starst as a typical Dave song, but then only the harmonies and maybe the chorus (which is typical for the album) are pure Maiden. His wild solo is cool. Kind of unusual song.
Brilliant record!

HAH is such a classic album. Sound, writing and vibes. No fillers, 8 songs, only if we compare the songs (Walk Away?).

To say something about the songs which are not the big classics from it:

Lady Evil - reminds me of Dio Rainbow era. A rocker that works.
Wishing Well - a gem.
Walk Away - as if it was written for the next BS album. Probably the weakest song, but still the riffs and the melodic approach are nice. It's just the chorus, but it's not bad. It's like glam metal.
Lonely Is The Word - more Rainbow style. Such a slow song with a long classic guitar playing in feel (along with the keys!) is probably best ending to this essential metal album. It's very effective. Classic BS.
Riding The Eagle is one of Primal Fear's perfect examples of their style of writing melodic and memorable choruses. It's classic metal and power metal in one, but that really helped shape their sound and impact.

Was listening to that last album all last week, had only opened the CD after getting it years ago, there isn't really a stand out track on it, but it's a pretty solid listen

I still have to buy that one (I have the first four albums on CD though). I listened to it on Spotify and reached the same conclusion. Solid, but unremarkable.

I will probably get it at some point to complete the collection though.
