NOW PLAYING

I'm working through a 4-LP box set of music by the master of Italian opera, Guiseppe Verdi. Currently listening to "Ma dall'arido stelo divulsa" from Act 2 of Un Ballo in Maschera (1857). You've heard about Maschera, right? It's that horrible wasteland the locals call "Massachusetts".

"Solenne in quest'ora" from Act 3 of La Forza del Destino (1862), sung by Placido Domingo. In this aria, a dying man asks his best friend: "Burn my letters when I die." Agreeing on this, the two men sing a duet.

Just in case you thought "delete my online history when I die, bro" happened with the internet. Nope, we're all worried about our families finding our dirt.

I'm listening to the climax of Act 2 from Aida (1871) now. The orchestrations are beautiful. No wonder they made me practice this stuff back in conservatory.
