Now Playing (Video Games)

So like half the planet I've also been playing Silksong. I'm struggling with it. On one hand I like it, on the other I find Hornet's move set very frustrating. I don't like the diagonal downward strike in particular. But still trudging through and overall it's fine so far.

I've spent much more time playing Blasphemous II. Now THIS game, I LOVE. I stayed away from it for the longest time thinking it was going to be harder than the first and I didn't quite get the choosing your initial weapon. Turns out you get all three anyway pretty quickly and for whatever reason it feels easier than the first ever did. I played the first one like 4 or 5 times and some bosses were a slog every single time. But with this game, I figure out the patterns fairly quickly and then it's just a matter of chipping away at them. I've only looked up a tutorial once so far. I'm collecting the doves at this point, have 26 of the 33 angels from the tower, all rosary beads, etc. So this one has been my jam the past few days.

Probably not In keeping with the usual stuff on this thread , but with my whole getting old and looking backwards thing, i`m going to a retro old school arcade game bar in a week or so hopefully. It has table top and stand up arcade games from decades ago to play and have a drink and a bite to eat, looks great fun.

Games like Asteroids, Pole Position, Out Run, Space Invaders ,Street Fighter etc.

I like the ones that have 1942

I've been waiting forever for that one to drop. Totally get what you mean about Hornet's moveset feeling different, that diagonal strike does seem like it'd take some getting used to after playing as the Knight for so long. Blasphemous II sounds like it hit the sweet spot for you though, that's awesome when a sequel just clicks better than the original. I might have to bump it up my backlog since you're making it sound way more approachable than I expected.

Very much so. That's why I stayed away from it for the longest time thinking it would be as frustrating as Silksong and instead, not even a week in and I've already explored 96% of the map and very close to the end. Not sure how much, got to the a (the?) Boss in the Bloody Rains... but I'm sure there isn't much left, unless I get the DLC that is.

I finally started HK and I'm enjoying it a ton. I didn't realize it's a fucking horror game though!

Spoiler warning I guess.
We'll start with "The Shadow Man Incident" (coincidentally I listened to Parasomnia for the first time today), where I went into a "tower of love", believing (from the noises) that I might be walking in on some bugs doing it. Not exactly what I wished to be doing but, fine. Well I wish it was that now, because eventually I encountered the freaky Shadow Man, the main antagonist of HK, and I'll just say that the combination of his creepy giggles and the sad grub sounds is disturbing.

After kicking his ass I got the ultimate prize: a map showing the locations of the remaining cute grubs. Of course I got excited, realizing I'm near the end of the game, so I began hunting them down.
The map turned out to be Shadow Man's final attempt at making sure I don't fall asleep. Because Shadow Man made sure to hide one grub in the corner of the area called "Not Going There Ever Again" (weird names this Team Cherry picked) behind some hidden wall I'd never find without the map. And behind the hidden wall is of course a second hidden wall, and behind that is a literal copy of myself. IRL, I'm probably in the top 5 people I'd be spooked to see just standing there. Really, don't introduce me to my look-alikes. So that already triggered horror in me, and what didn't help is the way in closing behind me as I was chasing the copy. At least he transformed into a horrid spider, what a relief.
Not looking forward to that spider boss at the bottom of the map, though!
Surely we're talking about the same guy, right? I know I'm looking forward to killing him and not coming back for a long while.

This is the guy. Nosk. In the words of Leon S. Kennedy, "No thanks, bro."

I don't know why, but my second time through Hollow Knight I actually managed to beat it with zero obstacles. This was after at least a 3 year gap, too.
