No Prayer for the Dying could have been Amazing

They're definitely my least 2 favorite Maiden albums. It would have been very interesting to hear what they would have come up with if Adrian hadn't left.

I have always been fond of the title track.
I am amazed that they didn't release it as a third single from the album, at least in the UK as the previous two were both top 3 hits!
I actually have a promo CD single of the title track--might've tried testing it out to radio stations before deciding not to release it commercially...or it was just planned as a radio-only thing.

None the less, NPFTD is still better than NOTB :D

The lows on NPFTD (The Assassin, Hooks In You) are inferior to the lows on NOTB (Invaders, Gangland). NOTB has two of my favourite songs (Children of the Damned, Hallowed), and it has The Prisoner. Those three last are, in my opinion, better than everything on NPFTD. The rest of the songs on NOTB, to me, are better than the "mid tier" songs from NPFTD.

So no, I can't agree with the quoted statement.

Hallowed, No Prayer, The Prisoner

Great:
22 Acacia, Children, Mother Russia and Fates Warning

Good:
TailGunner, Holy Smoke, Daughter to the Slaughter

Lame:
Run to the Hills, Gangland, Number, Invaders, Assassin,

It's very difficult for me to process how someone could be a huge Maiden fan yet consider Beast lame. :)

^ That almost sounds like a nostalgia statement. No disrespect intended. It's like the band saying "we have to play fear of the dark at every show because....." I feel the same way about Somewhere in Time. How can someone hate that album? Fact is, people have different tastes and I accept that.

Clearly. Me too. And I certainly wasn't trying to belittle your tastes.
I was (am) just curious.

So much of what makes Maiden Maiden is present in that song. Power, drama, atmosphere, ridiculously aggressive bass, powerful vocals, fanciful imagery, cool riffs, amazing solos, multiple sections...
"It's overrated" "overplayed" "I never liked it that much" — I probably wouldn't have remarked on any of these.

But "lame" is a pretty strong statement.

Prayer vs. Beast

10
Mother Russia

9
Children of the Damned, 22 Acacia Avenue, Hallowed Be Thy Name, Public Enema Number One, Fates Warning, Run Silent Run Deep

8
Total Eclipse, The Assassin, Bring Your Daughter .... to the Slaughter, No Prayer for the Dying, Tailgunner

7
Invaders, The Prisoner, Gangland, The Number of the Beast, Holy Smoke, Hooks in You

6
Run to the Hills

^ I should not have put it into the "lame" category. It's ok, I just am kinda tired of it honestly and I think that is a reason behind my low rating of the album. I have been on every tour starting with Brave New World except for the Dance of death tour. I'm tired of it along with a few others....

That, I certainly can process :D

OK, let's do this.

Great songs: Hallowed, Children of the Damned

Very good songs: Mother Russia, No Prayer, The Prisoner

Good songs: NOTB, 22AA, Tailgunner, PEN1, Fates Warning, Run Silent Run Deep (+ Total Eclipse)

Decent songs: Holy Smoke, Invaders, Gangland, Bring Your Daughter, Hooks In You

Bad songs: The Assassin (the only song on these two albums that I have to actually force myself to listen to).
