Probably the wisest thing he's said in his career, and he was drunk when he said it :D

In Norwegian we have a saying which goes: "Det er av barn og fulle folk man får høre sannheten" - "it is from kids and drunk people you get to hear the truth"  ;)

We have the exact same one in Spanish! though to English it translates more to "Children and Drunks speak the truth. But I've been enough around children to know this saying is bullshit, only drunks speak the truth, but children lie, lie, lie!

We have the same saying, without the drunk part. ;)  Finns are honest and quiet people when sober, but give 'em enough alcohol and... well, they become the opposite.

Hi! I often come to this board and read your posts and now I feel I have to put one thing straight!

NO ONE BOUGHT SOMEWHERE IN TIME IN JUNE 1986!

It was released in late september. The first single, Wasted Years, was supposed to be released 25 08 86
as Riggs painted on the single cover. There were some problems as usual and it was pushed forward to early september.

There is no chance that Maiden released thier first single from the album three months AFTER the albumrelease!

So you are basically characterising the Finns as a loud and distrustful people?

:innocent:

"Perkele, va fan gör det här blodet i mitt alkohol-omlopp"  :P

(Based on experience with Swedish-speaking Finnish students visiting our university and partying with us).

But we should maybe continue this discussion in the madness forum?

Well, I thought of "being honest" as being the opposite of "speaking bullshit". And there are sober Finns, but I believe you don't run into them as much outside the country. ;)

EW: Care to translate?  I don't know the word "omlopp" so the meaning of the sentence wasn't clear.

Something of interest:

Rush is in the middle of recording their new album. They will be doing a tour for it starting June 29 and will do 1 or 2 songs from the album. On June 1, they are going to release 2 new songs from the album.

The new Maiden album is COMPLETE. They are going to tour and do a new song from it starting June 9. They are NOT releasing any new songs from it prior to the tour.

Come on Maiden! If Rush can release 2 new songs in the MIDDLE of recording the album and BEFORE the tour starts, you surely can release 1 new song!

This is might be out of topic, but am I only one feeling how bands always use like five years to complete an album? Even younger newer bands.

Maiden isn't afraid to play something before it's released.

Rush isn't afraid to play something before it's completed. I guess I would like to hear the studio version of the song first, but I'll be just as glad to hear a live version. I'm just being a bit impatient for the new stuff!

Who cares what Rush does? Their idea of a stage show is a couple of front-load washing machines. We're talking about f-ing Maiden. The point is we want to hear "Murky Space Race"* and we want it now!

*probably not an actual song title

A couple washing machines?    Maybe you should watch the LIGHT show instead of the washing machines. Also, I'm equally a MEGA, ULTRA fanboy of Rush as I am Maiden so I'll gladly defend both bands. Maiden puts on a great stage show and Rush a great light show. If you love Rush's music and actually experience a concert, you'll know what I mean. I rank Maiden and Rush up their in the top 5 with putting on the best concerts.

Anyway, bring on some new Maiden and Rush!!!  :yey:  :yey:  :yey:  :yey:  :yey:

"What the hell is this blood doing in my alcohol circulation"  :D

By the way: How much Swedish do Finns generally speak (those who don't have it as their first language, of course)? When I was in Helsinki, I had the impression most would rather speak English than Swedish.

Finish are Fins. Danish are Danes.. Swedish are Swedes.  Who the Hell are the Dutch? ..Kids and drunks lie as much as anyone, just take my ex for example, a child who is drunk 6 days a week!!.NO MORE LIES?? I'll tell you the truth son, your souls gonna burn.in a lake of FIIAAAHH!!!
19 days til Phoenix!!!!  21 days till San Bernardino
                                     UP THE IRONS!!!!!!!!!!!!!

@fonzbear

I think the Meatalist, was making the point that this forum is about Maiden. He obviously knows enough about Rush (and probably likes them enough) that he is familiar with their stage set.

Yeah, I figured it from Foro's post (see above).  Funny how not knowing one word can make the entire sentence incomprehensible. :)

"Normal" Finnish people (that is, not Finnish-Swedish, who speak Swedish as their mother tongue) learn swedish at school, and it's mostly compulsory from lower secondary on (some take it in primary school already).  There was a change in the language law a few years back so I'm not sure how it is now.  I dropped it after my first year of high school.  Most people see it as a necessary bore, not something they would want to learn. Most young people especially speak English pretty well since it's on TV, the internet, movies, ads, and so on (foreign movies here use subtitles instead of being dubbed, fortunately).  Most speak it better than Swedish.  I practically can't speak or understand Swedish anymore, though I studied it for four years... I'd just straight ask for English, and if that didn't help, then try to manage with my broken Swedish or get someone else to help you.  For government and municipality jobs, it's usually a formal requirement, though sometimes it's just enough to say that you studied it in school.  But if you try to get service or ask for directions in Helsinki, you'll probably get better results in English.  It might be a bit surprising, since most things like road names and traffic signs are in both languages.  If you go North, even, say, Tampere, you'll find it harder to get service in Swedish, since most of the Swedish-speakers are on the coast.

Then again, I'd still say we speak Swedish better than Americans speak any other language.   ;)
