New album cover art just posted!

Oh I do!

But this time, it wasn't the illustrationthat made me sigh, but the reaction of certain persons...  :innocent:

They mention the following :

"[Adrian:] ...The songs we covered are “Tush” by ZZ Top, “Space Truckin’” by Deep Purple, “Angel Of Death” by Thin Lizzy and “Hocus Pocus” by Focus.
Hocus Pocus!!!  What a great song.  It's a pity Dave says the classic yodelling vocals aren't going to be on it though :(

As for the artwork, I'm divided on it.  I'm, not sure what to think.  At least it's better than DoD and DotR but there's something about it that I don't like.  Maybe it's the fact that there are six Eddies :|

If you look closely and get your brain into gear, you'll realise that there's only one Eddie. The others are simply zombie-soldiers.

You're not very observant, are you?  :innocent:

Well, we'll just have to wait until we hear the new album.  Maybe the artwork will be better after listening to the lyrics.  And look at it this way-DoD had the worst cover I've ever seen (okay, maybe not the worst), but the music was brilliant.  The cover art doesn't reflect on the musical quality held therein, and this one appeals to my dark, warlike Celtic nature .  Or maybe it's the Viking blood....

So I take it then that the artwork for "The Trooper" has no Eddies

Can't you make the difference between Eddie's lovely grinning face and a simple skull?

Umm...if you look closely, you can clearly see that only one of the figures features the crushed nose and distinct eye sockets of our beloved eddie.  The others are simply skeletons.  I don't know what you mean about the Trooper, though...

And as to the cover you posted...I had nearly forgotten about the last time you posted that and burnt my retina, and then you go and spoil it all!

Tank_logo.jpg

Once again the photoshopping takes center stage here...shame that there's no original art to speak of...but its the way of the world this day and age. I do like the colours though...Now I need to paint some Tank pieces.... ;)

Havent posted here in a long time, so hey there everybody!
I like it, but it is the only Maiden album cover where Eddie is somewhat in the background. Seems like this would have been better as a cover for one of their singles to be released.....but whatever. Beats the crap out of DOD

I'm not sure what to think of it...It looks great, but i'd like Eddie a bit nearer. From that point of view he doesn't look big enough to see the details of his "lovely" face. And it's a shame. Since of the very serious concept of the album, it's not as humerous as the early one's used to be. But if you let your imagnination take over for a bit, it does get a bit more funny. As for example, this artwork reminds me of the old piratetales. The biggest reason I assume, is the black flagg, which makes me think of the old ships with those big cannons with absolutley no accuracy. Now,let's get back to the artwork itself.

At the first sight, the artwork doesn't seem to take place in a specific war but It seems that Eddie has an Thompson in his hand if what I'm assuming is correct. But on the other hand, the logo on the flagg has a rifle with significant similarities to the M16, except for the magazine, which is too close to  the "exit" for an M16. If it's supposed to be a modified M16, then it can't be in WW2, since the M16 and it's predecessors came just before the Vietnam war. The tank doesn't seem to be a "real" one, since it seems to be an mixture between a german Tiger, and a russian T80.
And the helmet that the closest skeleton wears is an american M1 helmet, from the WW2 and they wear american WW2 clothing. The skeleton second closest has a german MP40, which seems a bit strange because of the clothes. The belts which they carry ammo in are also from WW2. But another thing that indicates that it's post-ww2 is the smoke launchers on the tank which was used first in the 60:s.

Very good observations. Looks like they went for more of an atmospheric cover, rather than an historically accurate one, which is somewhat puzzling since Maidens songs, especially Arrys "history lesson" epics are most of the time, lyrically accurate.

Maybe this ones a fake....Somethings amiss. Seems like a conspiracy.

The obvious theme of the cover is War & Destruction, and we all know that -- sadly -- this is timeless and has existed since the dawn of History. The artwork simply shows a mixture of equipment from the latest conflicts since WWII.

Oh, and the crossed guns on the 'symbol' don't look right at all. The magazine is far to close to the muzzle to be technically accurate (i.e., it's not close enough to the chamber that receives the bullet before you fire).

Yes, It's actually already stated, among with other things in previous posts (mine).

The corpses on the ground appear to actually be real people, maybe they are trying to show that death (the skeletons) is taking over the world.

I liked the cover when I first looked at it. (thumbnail. it seemed promising) but when I took a second (and a closer) look... I thought that: "the album covers after X-Factor, are all too straightforward, with no depth and style".

Noone can deny the beauty of Derek's covers. Their colors, design is so beautiful, deep, and colorful. and they were very up-to-date in 80's. (except NPFTD maybe). I really liked FotD cover. possibly best thing that can compete with (and even surpass) Derek Riggs. And very modern too. I would be very happy if they were still working with that designer. X-Factor was totally different, not an drawn picture, but a photo. and both graphically and story-wise it was good quality again.

Whatever, I hope they come up with an album with BNW quality (musicwise). if they do, I can hang a 10m*10m meter poster of the album cover to my wall, even it's the worst album cover ever in music history.
