Metallica

A couple of no repeat shows in Budapest with great setlists. Loads of songs I cannot wait to see live in London next month!

Their 14th of July 2024 gig in Madrid was unexpectedly mind-blowing.

I am now (quite randomly due to a resale ticket) going to that show as well. Only the 4th time seeing them after 2003, 2008 and 2017. High hopes, I’ve never really been blown away by them live before.

I have only seen them live once (in 1999), so I am really looking forward to it. I really like the idea of the No Repeat weekend, so the occasion was too good to miss.

Edit: this is the setlist of the gig I saw back in 1999 https://www.setlist.fm/setlist/meta...cional-do-jamor-oeiras-portugal-7bd682e4.html

Metallica killed it in Budapest. They don't get enough praise for these no repeat shows that they have.

I wish all the other bands that I like did that.
Agreed! I saw them at first shows of the tour in Amsterdam. Two great concerts and also it was a nice pleasure not to know the setlist in advance for once :)

That was exactly my case, until they blew me away two years ago.
Its a strange one... I like Metallica but the live experience was always 'meh'. I first saw them on St Anger at Earls Court, which is a bad venue and they were touring a terrible album. Then I saw the £5 Death Magnetic promo launch show at 02, which was better (but I had to attend on my own due to the ticket draw system). And then, 2017 seated high up in the 02. So none of their shows has ever landed really well yet.

I saw them on the very same tours, and it was so 'meh' that I thought I would never see them again. Then curiosity got me with the donut stage... And they were great. Like really great, putting tons of effort into the performance, fighting for a great show on a very hot day. I got home ready for another Metallica honeymoon.

I last got to experience that with Maiden on the Book of Souls tour in Ft. Lauderdale. For Maiden England the second show that tour was in Atlanta and I couldn't even wait and had to peek at what they played in Charlotte.

Pretty sure for the 80's shows I didn't know the setlists going in. That was so long ago though, heh.

I do like Metallica but would not consider myself to be a big fan. Have seen them several times and have bought most of their albums but haven't had the desire to see them since the Death Magnetic tour. They played the NFL stadium the last couple tours they have been to my city and the sound in that stadium is absolutley horrible for concerts so I passed.

I have to say my three Metallica shows in 2019 and 2024 have been some of the best fun I've ever had. I will go in a heartbeat the next time they come here. Hetfield sounds great live and the crowd goes nuts too.

I think it’s mentioned further back in this thread, but Lars is playing to a click track now (that may explain why they sound so good compared to past tours). @MrK and I saw their No Repeat shows in Chicago in 2024 and they were outstanding. Pretty sure they played all of Ride the Lightning minus two songs on the second night, too.

With the upcoming re-release of ReLoad, I have been listening to Load and ReLoad all weekend. I think they were the beginning of the problem with all Metallica albums that followed. Too long!

I think bands feeling they need to fill a CD to full capacity is a problem that started in the mid 90s and continues to these days. Metallica are not the only guilty of doing that though.
