Metal with female vocals

NIGHTWISH

Ms. Floor Jansen is a keeper. Also, we will be a six-piece band from now on, as Mr. Troy Donockley (uilleann pipes, low whistles, vocals) will become a full-time member of NIGHTWISH.

Originally we were going to wait until 2014 to make a decision about the future line-up of the band, but the past year has clearly shown us that Floor and Troy are perfect matching pieces to our puzzle, and we are really grateful of the bond that has grown between all of us. We love you guys.

Commented vocalist Floor Jansen: "Words cannot describe what I feel! This union is beyond everything and I cannot tell you how wonderful it is to continue this amazing journey with my new brothers! Once I had a dream…and this is it!!!"
Piper/whistleman, added vocalist Troy Donockley: "`Imaginaerum World Tour´was a revelation to me and in that time, I became aware of a growing unity and then, finally, a transcendence of all the usual nonsense that affects bands. A beautiful process. And since the idea, the musical dream that is NIGHTWISH has been a part of me since before I was born, I am delighted to officially sail into uncharted waters with my brothers and sister. Wondrous scenes Ahoy! "

FUCK. YEAH. :nana::edmetal::shred::rocker:

Very glad this was finally announced, though it has been pretty obvious for a year now. I'm not sure how adding Troy is going to enhance Nightwish's sound...I think he's great on a few tracks, but not every song needs bagpipes or whistles

Holy crap. So just two albums with Annette. Glad they got a great replacement, but I wished they had gotten another album under their belt with Annette. Oh well. On to bigger, better things!

Well, Annette's been out of the band for roughly two years now....

Though I like the two Annette albums, especially Dark Passion Play (which may be my favorite full album of theirs), I think Floor is the best of both worlds. Loved Tarja, but some of the material suffered from a lack of catchiness due to the operatic vocals. With Annette, some of the material suffered due to her limited range. However, Floor can do both styles and lands somewhere between the two from a vocal quality standpoint. She does both singers material justice, and is one hell of a performer. I'm very excited to hear what they put out with her.

I saw Nightwish (with Floor) and Kamelot (with Tommy) over a year ago and on both accounts my reaction was, "Who used to sing for this band?"

Olzon's final performance with Nightwish was on 29 September, at The Complex, Salt Lake City.
Jansen's first performance with Nightwish was on 1 October, at The Showbox SoDo, Seattle.

Huh. Apparently the show I saw was on Oct 7th...close enough! Shutup, NP!

Regardless of the years, I'm just glad to be excited about new Nightwish material! Now if Tuomas would just hurry up with his weird Scrooge McDuck crap and get to it...

I saw Lacuna Coil on Friday (sorry Night Prowler!) and was pretty impressed by them, they were far better live than I ever expected. Cristina Scabbia's singing was absolutely spot on, and Andrea Ferro is fun to watch on stage.

There's a lot of European symphonic metal diva's in this thread.

Here's some other great female fronted bands that's not so diva:

And absolute favorite:

Laura Pleasant is fucking rad and super nice.

I am disappointed by the setlist of that DVD. Retrospect? Not at all. Lots of new songs and some major songs of the past are missing.
