Megadeth

Gave the whole album a quick listen right now. I mean... yeah. IMO it's quite consistent yet lacks ambition. And that's Ok: by now Mustaine has nothing else to prove. No doubt it would be really cool if the band's last chapter was a banger. Yet this plays save as save can be when it comes to composition and balancing heavier parts with more accessible ones within each song. Overall this is a record composed of short tunes and the structures are really simple. Yet, unlike its predecessor, there's not a single "yuck!" moment - like Celebutant or Junkie. But, on the other hand, there's also nothing that IMO comes even close to tracks like The Sick, The Dying And The Dead, Life In Hell, We'll Be Back or Dogs Of Chernobyl. It seems to be a fun album, little more than that. One I guess I'll only give a couple of spins before shelving it.

Is out? Tomorrow ill listen it. But the 3 songs reminds me 90s album but a bad copy of the sound. But its the last mustaine work

Listening to it at the moment. A bit slower than other albums a few vibes from old 90s megadeth and a few to from the last albums. Not one of their best for sure not one of their worst.

And i still think that and album with metallica and mustaine with 3 guitar players is what the world would love to see. Under other name but one last album togheter.

Megadeth probably should have hired a singer 15 years ago. His voice was worsening and sounds worse than ever before in the new album, especially in the Puppet Parade track.

True. Also he had cancer. I just read a review and they give a 10/10. Its not even close to 7/10.

Yeah lucky that both him and Bruce were able to overcome it.

Regarding the voice, I think this is where the producer comes in. The chorus of Puppet Parade sounds horrible and maybe backing vocals or adding some other elements could have helped. Loved the riff though

I really liked these lines — chilling:

“They gave me gold, they gave me a name,
but every deal was signed in blood and flame.
So here’s my last will, my final testament, my sneer:
I came, I ruled - now I disappear.”

It ends with “The Last Note”. “Ride The Lightning” is a bonus track.
Last note a good song but weird lyrics and ride the lightning nothing more than a copy of the song

Btw if anybody has seen the documentary is weird how he speaks many times about the contracts with other band mates and the way how they record and album and that he MUST write the 80% of the album BY CONTRACT. I know megadeth is his band but maybe that is the reason that he has changed so many times thr lineup

I like the last note, pretty decent song and fitting end to the Megadeth Legacy. Then the Bonus track kicks in to remind everyone, not that we needed reminding lol, of where Dave started.

The RTL cover is very good in my opinion. Just wish he’d recorded it years ago as while his vocals are ok this would have sounded so much better with his Peace Sells era vocal sneer.

Overall I think this new album is pretty decent and have really enjoyed listening to it all week.

Yes, so it really ends with Ride the Lightning.
Do Japanese edition CDs “really end” with whatever bonus tracks are tacked on? No, of course not.

Megadeth ends with the last bit of non-bonus material. And the lyrics of “The Last Note” make it very clear that it’s the band’s final statement.

Their last written song for sure.

I actually like the album quite a bit, and it’s cool to see Dave writing “fun” and less serious songs like I Don’t Care and the hilarious Let There Be Shred. The album dips a bit with tracks 6-8, and the Metallica cover is truly pointless, but overall I think it’s stronger than most of their 2000s material.

I Am War is my favorite track at the moment. I really like the feel of it.
