Megadeth

An ass-kissing article that hasn’t aged well, unfortunately. Th1rt3en had its moments, but its explicit rehashing was annoying and it was a big step down from Endgame.

My band have released a cover of the track, Countdown to Extinction, that you are welcome to have a listen to.

Love it!
Bass is up front in the mix and sounds great.
An example of what Megadeth would have been with a real singer.
Excellent choice of deep cuts.
I was fortunate enough to see it played live last month!

LOVE THE BASS! I get an (early) Icarus Witch vibe

Thanks very much. I love the bassline in the original version, and it was the primary reason for wanting to record the track, as I really enjoy playing it.

I've seen Megadeth 4 times, but unfortunately never seen them play that track.

Boy, Megadeth is my 2nd favourite band next only to maiden.

How would you rank their guitarists?
I'm including only the 'lead' guitarists. Hence, no Dave Mustaine, Greg Handevidt (played in Last Rites EP) or Kerry King and Teemu Maantysari (only performed live). But if you want, you may include them.

1. Marty Friedman
2. Kiko Loureiro
3. Chris Broderick
4. Chris Poland
5. Glenn Drover
6. Al Pitrelli
7. Jeff Young
Jeff young only doing one album and only playing 6 or 7 leads on that album makes it hard to rank him, and there is little live footage recorded with him. But since he is a numbskull conspiracy tinfoil hat moron and eternal crybaby, ranking him lowest seems valid.

For me:
Friedman
Poland
Kiko

Drover and Broderick are very samey, great players, little individualism. Pitrelli is the oddest one they ever had, totally out of style. Never fit Megadeth, much like Jimmy DeGrasso.

My personal ranking

#1 Rust In Peace
#2 Youthanasia
#3 Peace Sells
#4 Countdown To Extinction
#5 Killing Is My Business
#6 SFSGSW
#7 TWNAH
#8 Cryptic Writings
#9 Dystopia
#10 Endgame
#11 The System Has Failed
#12 Thirteen
#13 United Abominations
#14 The Sick...
#15 Risk
#16 Pooper Collider

Basically 9-16 play no role for me. I can still rank them, but there is very little difference between them, with maybe the last two being rock bottom. None of the albums from #9 is featured in my personal best of Megadeth playlist. Does not mean they are all bad though.

New Ellefson-Soto album in late May…?
