Manic Street Preachers

James Dean Bradfield usually jokes about only having one stage move, turning around on one leg. Someone has made a gif of it and it looks hilarious.

As per The Concert Thread, I listened to some Manics this mornin. Went with Generation Terrorists.

So the Manics aren't entirely new to me, I'm aware of many of their big singles and my brother had a couple of albums when we was growin up, pretty much everything up until This Is My Truth. So I heard plenty of em in the background.

Anyway, GT is a decent album, some good rock n roll on show and some tasty dark riffs here and there. Another Invented Disease stood out, as did possibly Born To End. I imagine this band bein quite fun live back in the early days.

@GhostofCain as someone who doesn't really pay much attention to lyrics, the though provoking stuff didn't really make an impact on me but I did hear mention of the economy and what not so I feel more high brow by assimilation yee haw!

Oh, you want a quantified review? Hmmmm, 6 outta 10? Seems harsh, I'll go 7.

Motorcycle Emptiness is THE song, as @MindRuler can corroborate. :)

Generation Terrorists is good, but it contains a fair amount of filler material. My favourite albums are Everything Must Go and The Holy Bible.

You can find my thoughts on their whole discography up to The Ultra Vivid Lament here:

They were ok at Live at Leeds earlier in the year , good live performance but don`t stand out in a musical crowd to me.

Life would be very boring if we all liked the same things. :)

I've seen the Manics live twice this year (small album launch gig in Kingston-upon-Thames in February and then a gig on the UK tour at the thankfully renamed Bristol Beacon in April) and the latter is arguably the best concert I have been to in 2025 so far.

I agree with your opening line but at the risk of appearing personal which i`m not ,i still find it odd you live and breath a Maiden forum but mainly criticize and complain , something you never do on this thread. If i dare mention politics i have always wondered if Brexit and Bruce has caused the issue and you can`t shift it, a real shame if so given Maiden have never really mixed the two things.

The festival performance of the Manics wasn`t a fair measure i suppose as it wasn`t a stand alone show of their`s but it certainly didn`t get close to the 2 maiden shows in 2025 for me.

I imagine the irony of quite a few politically right leaning fans singing along to lefty political inspired lyrics would have made you laugh at the festival above:bigsmile:

Why would I criticise Maiden on this thread? :P

Ah, you wanted me to criticise the Manics! I sometimes wish they were more openly political on recent albums and less introspective, but they are in their mid-50s. I am not as revolutionary as I once was...

I`m sure you could find a reason if you really try!

Just remembered they are Lefty and Welsh , no wonder i can`t get in to them :D
