Maiden's future (albums/touring)

Steve has often stated that what counts in a band's history are the albums, the only thing that remains. I agree with this, and I'd like them to concentrate on writing new music, rather that doing history tours again and again. Within 30 years, I'd like to have three more albums to listen to, rather than tour books to read. But mine is a pointless statement : they will never turn into a studio band, and they won't privilege recording sessions over touring, 'cos the same Steve repeatedly said that what he prefers are live shows.

Rather than have them call it quits at a selected date, I'd like for them to be able to objectively decide that the quality of performances/music is declining and decide to end it before they become a shell of their former selves. Doesn't matter if it's in 2013 or 2033, as long as they stay true to themselves.

I totally agree with Mosh. That said (as I'm sure most would agree), their playing seems pretty damn tight right now --& I see very little evidence of them getting sloppy (loosing focus) or the quality tailing off live (due to perhaps age) at all. (Their albums speak for themselves of course; the last two have been excellent.)

Exactly, they seem to actually be picking up a little steam on this tour. From an overall energy perspective, it has been great. So long as they are doing quality work, I hope they keep rolling

I don't know if I'm in the minority here, but I think the band has only gotten better over the years. The live shows are as energetic as ever, if not more so. The only ones who seem to be mellowing a bit with age are Murray and H, but let's be honest, H has always been rather mellow.

From a songwriting standpoint, they are stronger than ever. Most bands their age, and many younger, cannot say that.

"H"? Harris? Mellow?

I think everyone here is being to generous - I don't see them playing past 2016/17.

Final album in 2014. I could see a combination farewell / new album tour ending in 2016/17. I'm going to predict most of our Maiden fix coming in the form of DVDs/Blu Rays finishing out the history. 2015 -2020 having a 90s era documentary and remastered live show, followed by one or two post reunion releases.

I surely hope not! But, let's be real: Nicko is 61.
