Maiden Tour 2014 (SPOILER TAGS REQUIRED WITHIN)

I can't decide if I'm going to look at setlists this time or try to leave something as a surprise. I probably won't be able to resist looking.

I imagine I'll be there for the day at least, not sure if I can make the whole weekend. That will impact on

But I think I hardly drank anything during the time I saw you last year....:uhm:
I believe that's because you were recovering from the previous day!

You know all the songs anyway.

For those of you interested in this Metallicabyrequest stuff the site to see which songs are leading in votes for each gig is http://www.metallicabyrequest.com/. That Hellfest line up is very interesting, lots of great bands. I wonder if Sonisphere is going to get Black Sabbeth and Soundgarden then this year. Im going to go for the weekend at Sonisphere UK, I might not look at Maidens setlist beforehand. For every tour i have done so, but for this tour i may not due to it being so similar to last years tour the songs that will be changed will be a nicer surprise.

It's interesting to see those results! Although, like most of these "pick our setlist" internet polls, the majority of the songs in the Top 20 are ones that Metallica would play anyway. The first four dates on that list are chock full of standard Metallica live tunes, except for the high ranking of "Whiskey in the Jar" and the oddity that is the Germans wanting to hear "St. Anger." Now, if you look at the Prague and Vienna shows, that's gonna throw the band for a loop!

It would be very interesting to see what would happen if Maiden did something like this.

How exactly is the Metallica request thing working? Can the public pick absolutely anything Metallica have recorded? Will this mean they might play material they've never played live? Just curious, as if Maiden did it, I'd guess a whole glut of SiT tunes, live rarities, & never-played-live material would come out top e.g. AtG.

The public that buys a ticket.

Maiden did something like this in 1999. Not that much rare stuff in the set although we got Killers, Powerslave. And SIASL.

Not many songs are left that Metallica didn't play live.

...And Justice For All: The Frayed Ends Of Sanity
Load: The House Jack Built, Cure, Thorn Within, Ronnie
Reload: Better Than You, Slither, Bad Seed, Where The Wild Things Are, Prince Charming, Attitude, Fixxxer
St. Anger: Invisible Kid, My World, Shoot Me Again, Purify

Out of all these, only Frayed Ends and Better Than You are worth it IMO.

I think over on the Metallica forums, people just want the songs that havent been played to be played. Id much rather have a setlist consisting of great songs than songs that havent been played. Theres a reason why they havent been played and also the songs tallica havent played arent great minus Frayed ends and better than you. So im pretty excited by what the Knebworth setlist looks like right now, ive Seen tallica 3 times but id still rather see Enter Sandman again than a lot of the songs theyve never played.

If Maiden did a poll like this, Top 20 would probably all be never-played-live songs. Now, it'd be much more reasonable, if they made a poll consisting of all never-played-live songs and played just the Top 3-4-5 etc.

I would have thought a heck of a lot of people would just vote for the best-known songs that get played a lot anyway.

They would. We seem to think that ALL Maiden fans want to hear the obscure stuff that hasn't been played, but in actuality we're in the minority. We'd be lucky to get 3-4 lesser played songs. The rest would be the "cabaret" set.

I love Fixxxer, but I don't think it would work well live.

Agreed, for the most part. I'd give away a toe to never hear "Enter Sandman" ever again in any capacity.

They wouldn't be able to do the setlist because it would contain 'Hallowed be thy Name', 'Rime of the Ancient Mariner', 'Alexander the Great', 'Fear of the Dark', 'Sign of the Cross', 'The Clansman' and 'Paschendale'. Only two hours in an Iron Maiden show.

Brigantium, you should be getting an e-mail sometime soon, has it arrived yet? Mine just arrived and this is genuinely what I voted for:

'St. Anger' in full
I Disappear
The Day That Never Comes
Low Man's Lyric
No Leaf Clover
Breadfan
Attitude

Yes, I got my e-mail pretty much straight away. And someone isn't bothered about his vote, so I have two. :D
