Any Austrians here?
Exactly the kind of "poseur" attitude I hate. Same with Judas Priest. This is just a heavy Metal cliché. During the 80s I liked to see Steve run around like a loony, with the guitarists at the back.
I’m hopeful that Maiden will pull off some grand surprises this time, as it is their last 80′s-based tour. We all know Bruce is quite fond of Revelations, Children of the Damned and Remember Tomorrow. I’ll eat my hat if at least one of those tunes doesn’t make it in.
In addition, perhaps because they always seem to save room for plenty of played-out (2 mins, trooper, rtth, etc.) tunes on new album tours, maybe they will finally air some long-forgotten 80′s gems (Icarus, SIASL, Still Life, etc.) in place of some of the tired classics. I’m sure Adrian would be over the moon if they played some more of his SIT material.
I guess they’ve got one last chance to surprise us all, they’ve got to know that a lot of us will be looking very critically at what they decide to do next summer.
Right, Foro, plus, I'm now kind of forbiden to defend Slayer here : I would infringe the forum rules.
Summer 2010: was stated by Bruce to cover "the whole history of the band" + festivals in summer = big surprise: 2/3 post reunion era material.Repesentative of the whole period + festivals in summer = no big surprises.
True. What I'm trying to say is using festivals as an excuse to say they won't pull any surprises out is bollocks.Summer 2010: was not announced as another leg of the preceding tour.
i really love that happening but if they are going to revisit all 80s history the songs will be very well known classics + 3 to 5 seventh son songs, and they said they are going to change the set list a littleSummer 2010: was stated by Bruce to cover "the whole history of the band" + festivals in summer = big surprise: 2/3 post reunion era material.
IMO, Powerslave is kind of a given. What will be interesting to see is if they drop SSOASS. It would be strange, considering the production of the tour is kind of based around that song. I don't think it'll go unless they do something insane like bring back ROTAM.I've got my fingers crossed for Children of the Damned, and I don't think Powerslave is a ridiculous thing to wish for. Infinite Dreams would really be special, but I'm much less sure they'd do that one. And SIT is still under-represented in the most likely setlist choices I can think of.
IMO, Powerslave is kind of a given.
It's an iconic song from quite possibly their most succesful, career-defining album, and there is plenty of Powerslave/LAD imagery added to the new tour artwork. What makes Powerslave a given?
What it did say was that it would be the last airing for many of these 80s tunes.
Not entirely. That could mean anything. Suppose they keep Moonchild, Prisoner, Phantom, Seventh Son, Clairvoyant and Aces High in the setlist, and never play them again afterwards, then that prophecy is fulfilled.
Okay, so they keep all those, but then what do they change that wouldn't be a surprise? That leaves CIPWM, ATSS, 2 Minutes, Trooper, RTTH, Wasted Years, NOTB, TETMD, and Running Free as candidates for being dropped. Surely, switching a couple of those tunes out for unsurprising tunes like, say, Wrathchild, Hallowed and Sanctuary wouldn't be cause enough for a press release saying:
"this is likely to be the last time we will tour with a set list based on the ‘80s, and therefore the last time fans will EVER hear some of these songs played live. With this in mind, for the 2014 dates we plan to change the set list around a little, to make it more equally representative of the whole of the ‘80s period"
The key words there are "with this in mind", referring to "last time fans will EVER hear..." meaning they're not going to change the setlist around simply to add more songs that they're going to play live again. By simply keeping the songs you've suggested, never playing them live again, and not adding in any other semi-rare surprises, they aren't really fulfilling the prophecy are they?
